Frowning, I watched her slump—seeming defeated. She stomped her way to the entrance, standing behind the large group of friends making their way inside.

“Welcome to the Subway. What is your destination today?” I asked the woman standing before me, only half paying attention to her response.

While taking the order, my eyes followed the blonde as she finally came in, looking all around her with traces of anxiety—like she’d done the first day. This time, however, she took a deep breath and straightened, as though psyching herself up for what she had to do. Sam began to prepare the customer’s drink while I continued taking orders, but my eyes never left the girl.

She murmured something, apparently chiding herself, and turned, noticing that the people who entered either grabbed a table or made the to-go line. I imagined maybe she had told herself she could do this, and a bit of amusement filtered through me.

Okay, that was cute.

Was she really coming to talk to me? Then why hadn’t she done it outside? Right, because I had been an idiot, or maybe I’d caught her off guard.

Her gaze travelled around the place, unsure whether to take a table or get in line. When her eyes found me, she discreetly looked away, and then stepped behind the last person waiting to reach the register.

“She’s hooked,” Josh concluded, slurping on what was left of his drink.

“Aww, she’s shy,” Rebecca whispered. “She's super nervous. That’s so cute!”

I hushed them. “Stop it.”

“Yep. She definitely wants someafter-hoursBrax action.”

“Just reel her in, dude. Reel her in.”

“Don’t you have someplace to be!” I hissed at them while Sam chuckled behind me.

“Oh, shit! We are going to miss the movie.” Josh staggered out of his chair, pulling his girl with him. “Text me later with a play-by-play of what happens once I’m gone,” he told Sam. “I need to be in the know.”

Rebecca placed a hand on my bicep. “Listen, it’s okay to be nervous. Just remember, girls ask guys out all the time now. It’s totally normal.”

“I swear to God!” I snapped.

Both their eyes widened, and they rushed to the door, trying to repress their snickering.

Letting out a slow and calming breath, I focused on taking the orders, one after the other, until I noticed the blonde was only a few spaces away. Her attention was on the graffiti logo that covered the brick wall, and my gaze kind of decided to check her out, blatantly.

Strands of different hues of gold weaved between her hair, falling in gentle waves until they reached her waist. It partially hid her big, crystal blue eyes and long lashes that reminded me of a doll’s. Her skin was fair and soft, and she had a cute button nose with perfectly lush pink lips that made me thirsty all of a sudden. Her clothes were still a bit wild, but she was no longer wearing the huge sweatpants under the shorts, and the sweater hinted at her perky, round breasts and the feminine curves underneath it.

There was only a person between us now, and I couldn’t help but realize how naturally breathtaking she truly was.

“I’ll just have a triple espresso, please,” the guy ordered, and I was forced to blink away from her.

“Of, course. Wall Street, rush hour!” I called back to Sam.

The blonde looked over the man's shoulder while he paid, as though to see what he was getting and frowned, her eyes finally focusing on me. She blinked startled, clearly not expecting for me to be that close.

Holy hell. She was stunning, and there wasn’t a drop of makeup on her face. My gut tightened as I stared straight into crystal blue eyes, goosebumps running over my skin, and my voice kind of left me.

Loser…my mind whispered. Clearing my throat, I regained my apparently lost composure.

“Hey…”

Hey??? That’s the best I can give her? What the hell is wrong with me?

“Smile dude. You are kind of frozen,” Sam mumbled behind me and I blinked again.

Listening to him, I gave her my most charming smile. The one I usually used to try to get out of trouble with Mrs. Reyes. It wasn’t like I had much experience flirting. I’d never had a girlfriend, period.

“Welcome to the Subway. What’s your destination today?” I finally asked, playing it cool… or trying.
