The gesture didn’t go unnoticed. Kingston’s eyes fell to my ribs and he sighed. “You know I can be as stubborn as you are.”

“I need you to give him one of the Elevated Warriors’ quarters,” I ordered, ignoring his remark. “I want him in the same hall as you.”

When his nostrils flared, I knew I had done it. “He cannot be in the same place where your highest warriors rest. That is outrageous!”

“And yet I asked you to do it.” I raised a obstinate eyebrow at him, challenging him.

His eyes narrowed. “Evanna…”

Oh, I was in trouble now. He hadn’t used that tone with me since I was a little girl. “Kingston…” I gave the attitude right back to him.

A deep grunt that said I was getting on his last nerve left him, and he rubbed his face again. “I cannot place a regular man, who doesn’t even know how to properly ride a Dragon, with warriors who are above everyone else in aptitude, ability, courage, and experience. He does not belong there, Evanna. He hasnotearned it.”

“I need him with you, Kingston,” I pleaded, sighing. “I need you to train him yourself. I can't trust anyone else but you with him, because he is not a regular man… not by any means.”

The meaning behind my words reached my guardian easily enough, and he stood, walking to the entrance of my room to make sure there was no one close who might hear us. Returning to my side, he moved the chair closer, keen eyes focusing on me.

“Tell me everything that happened.”
