I was going to regret this, wasn’t I? Oh shit.

“I don’t have my spear anymore, Kingston,” I reminded him.

“Chief,” he corrected, straightening to his full, intimidating as hell height. “You won’t need it with me anymore.”

My brows furrowed with more confusion than I could process. “Why?”

“Because we won’t be doing hand to hand combat. From now on, you’ll earn your place among the Dragons.” Giving me a parting nod, he turned on his heel and walked past his guard. “Take him to his new quarters and give him everything he will need.” Suddenly stopping, Kingston threw a glance back at me. “I’ll meet you tomorrow at the break of dawn on the staircase to the lairs.”

Absorbing everything that just occurred, my head turned towards Harrison, Harper, Penelope and the others to see them chuckle at my shock, proceeding to follow their chief. Asher gestured for Evie to walk before him, and when she strolled by me, our eyes briefly met, exchanging a million secrets before she was taken away.

“Come on. Let’s get you settled,” Asher encouraged, and I nodded, following along.

The moment my feet stepped onto the sixth floor, a sense of accomplishment filtered through me. I had no idea what the hell I had done—scratch that. I knew what I had done to be here, I just couldn’t fathom how I did any of it.

How could I channel Dragon sight? How could I sense what they were feeling, or incite such reactions from them? Why were they attracted to me? Where was that mind-boggling strength coursing through me coming from? How was I able to heal when I was close to them, and why had my ring never stopped glowing since I entered this world?

Too many questions swirled in my mind, demanding answers, but I didn’t even know where to start or who to ask.

The shock Kingston had experienced when he learned the Demon Dragon went to defend me, and the undertone of Asher’s words as he explained that to him, told me that creature wasn’t like the others.

“Good evening, warriors.” Evie’s voice pulled me out of my thoughts, and I looked back to see her continuing her way to the next floor, where her room was.

“Goodnight, Princess,” they all answered in unison and I joined them.

Asher guided me to the last entrance on the right, stopping by the maze-like hall that led into the room.

“This is you.” He gestured for me to follow and we both stepped inside.

I assumed the rooms were shared like the one I had before, but as I entered, I realized the space had a single bed inside. “I get my own room?”

“Yeah, you are on the sixth floor now.”

He winked, heading for a dresser and opening a large drawer to pull a few things out, placing them on the bed. The pair of pants that Maximillian, the tailor, gifted me when I was at the market was placed among them, as was a new arm shield that looked exactly like the ones they wore. Neck guard and everything.

“This is your new uniform. Wear it at all times, and especially, wear it tomorrow when you meet Kingston at the lair’s staircase. You’ll need it for your first official flight.” Facing me again, he gave me a pointed look. “No shirt.”

Both a rush of exhilaration and dread coursed through me. The disfigured skin on my side and back was something I had never felt comfortable showing. Evie and Josh were the only people I had ever willingly showed it to, but Evie was the one I’d trusted with the full story of my burns—something I hadn’t even talked about before I met her.

“If at all possible, I would prefer to wear a shirt please. Any kind you give me, just as long as it covers me. It’s a personal matter.”

The seriousness behind my words reached him, and his gaze became thoughtful. “I will speak to Kingston and see what we can do.”

“Thank you.” I nodded, grateful he would at least try.

“The bathtub is on that wall, and the lavatory on the other side. There are towels in the dresser, a personal hygiene set, and a new pair of sleeping clothes. Let any of us know if you have any questions or need anything else.”

“Will do. Good night.”

“Good night.” He turned, but his steps halted before he could leave. “You should know, you are not an Elevated Warrior yet. Every one of those men and women have earned the title, and you must too.”

Part of me deflated, but I didn’t want anything handed to me. I wanted to achieve that on my own. “I understand. I will give you my best, I promise.”

He smiled, pleased by my answer. “And we will give you our best, to help you get there.”

“Thank you.”

With one last nod, Asher walked out and left me to my thoughts.
