Laughing, Braxton extended his hand to her. “Pleasure to meet you. You can call me Brax.”

“My closest friends call me Larie,” she offered in return, shaking his hand.

“Skylar is basically Kingston’s daughter,” I informed.

“Sheismy daughter,” he complained. “And youwillcall her Skylar. You are not her closest friend.” His eyes sent a warning to Braxton, who fought not to smile.

“Kingston was my uncle, but swiftly became a father to me after my parents died with honor, fighting for our freedom,” she explained. “I grew up around his Elevated Warriors, but decided to continue my family’s legacy as a swordsmith. All the women on my mother’s side were swordsmiths for the Old Kingdom, and even the Dark Empire. Now, I am one for theSpes Regnum, our Kingdom of Hope.”

Braxton smiled in appreciation of her story, just as we all did.

“And she brings much honor to her parents by it,” Asher informed him. “Her family is legendary for crafting the finest swords, spears, and shields ever made.” He tapped at his arm guard with a finger, eliciting a brilliant smile from Skylar.

“So, what do you all need?” she asked, her gaze sweeping our group. “I have work to do.”

“I need something from you,” Kingston was the one to speak, but he caught her arm, guiding her farther aside to explain what he needed.

Understanding his request was private, the rest of the Elevated Warriors gladly scattered around her shop, checking out her latest weapons, and playing with them. Skylar’s shop was not like the others in the market. There were no wooden posts forming its structure, or cloth hanging from the ceiling. It was carved into the mountain, much like the houses were, offering her a large, cool, and much safer environment to handle her fire and metalworking.

Suddenly, I realized I was left alone—or as alone as I would ever be in public. With a swift glance, I confirmed my guard was fully enraptured with their admiration of Skylar’s work, and my eyes connected with Braxton’s. Holding his gaze, I silently snuck out of the shop, hoping he would follow. I might have completely lost my mind, because the second he was out, I swiftly pulled him into one of the cracks that ran along the mountain walls, and we were immediately shrouded in darkness.

My steps rushed over the rocky ground while I pulled him along the narrow, hall-like space, with barely enough room for our bodies to fit. I ran all the way to the end of the fissure, until we came out to a slightly larger space, and I whirled around, crashing against his chest, and stealing a kiss that had burned my lips for days.

Braxton’s deep chuckles escaped, briefly echoing in the space as he kissed me back, holding me fiercely against him.

“I miss you.” he whispered against my lips, and I deepened our embrace, tilting my head as our tongues danced together.

Gods! I was glad to hear that, because I missed him more than I thought possible. Vyper leaving Braxton’s side meant I no longer saw him every night, so we hadn’t been able to spend any time together. Seeing him with my guard during our meals, and whenever Kingston gave him a break from training, like this afternoon, was not enough. Every inch of me ached to be with him, always.

“I’ve missed you too,” I confessed, looking up at him while his thumb caressed my cheek. Our foreheads pressed together, giving me comfort.

The intensity growing in his gaze sliced through me, making me feel both alive and raw when my nerve endings wildly tingled. My stomach dipped in response. The sensation rushed through me, want pooling between my legs. Tugging at his neck, I kissed him again, letting the need I felt for him take over me. Soon, his breathing became rough as he responded to me, his mouth moving hungrily over mine.

“How long do we have?” Braxton grunted, biting my lower lip.

“Enough. Skylar’s shop is their blind spot. They are going to be there a while.”

His hands scooped my breasts out of my top the next second, lifting them to his mouth as he leaned closer. Lips closing over my nipple, he began to suck on it, giving the same attention to my other breast and driving me crazy. His hands urgently lifted my skirt, and before I knew it, he was kneeling under it, his tongue caressing my delicate skin. I had to bite my lips closed not to squeal in pleasure.

What was he doing to me?

My grip descended on his shoulders, struggling to hold on while he madly enjoyed me, thrusting me higher and higher with every lick, nibble, and swipe of his tongue along the most sensitive part of me. It was as though he wanted to make up for the time lost, but couldn’t restrain himself.

When I was moments away from falling over the edge, he stood and hauled me off the floor, his hardness sliding into me effortlessly. Once again, I was forced to swallow my moans. I had never been so ready for him as I was then. Struggling to breathe, I clung to Braxton, thighs closing around his waist, arms wrapping around his neck while he made love to me like he never had.

My back slammed against the rocky wall with his hips rocking into me, sliding so deeply into me that we were no longer two different beings, but one.

His mouth devoured my neck, and I was helpless but to let my head fall back, eyes closing as I enjoyed his every frantic thrust.

“Yes,” I breathed in his ear, unable to stay silent.

His speed increased the higher we both reached, a heavenly ecstasy swirling through me for the second time, searching for release. The feeling much stronger than when he first roused it.

Our lips crashed against the other again, a moment before pleasure exploded out of us, and Braxton swallowed the loud moans escaping me, mixing with his as he, too, came undone for me. The world spun around us, and even after the rocking of his hips slowed down to a crawl—unwilling to stop—it took several sun-minutes before we were able to open our eyes.

“I should go out there.” Braxton’s whisper brushed my lips with need, and he claimed them with a kiss that made my heart sigh.

I didn’t want him to leave. I wanted him to cradle me into his chest and kiss me softly until I fell asleep in his arms—like we had done every night for the past month—but he was right. We couldn’t risk it. With my nod, he finally slid out of me, setting me on the ground.
