“Thank you for healing me, true friend. With your aid, my son will be as strong as you’ve made me.”

My father’s voice echoed in my mind then, but with my own memory.

“It’s okay, Brax,”he assured, beginning the treatment for my rare illness. “It will only hurt a little, but soon you will get used to it, just like Daddy.” With a loving smile, he showed me his left arm, to reveal the same puncture marks on him, and I nodded, knowing everything would be okay.

The syringe fell from my hand when I gasped, shattering against the ground. Tharion shook his head, assuring me it was okay, but I was too busy trying to catch my breath. If the wild notion forming in my mind was right, it would explain so much. The reason my eye transformed into the Dragon eye, why I had night vision, and why I could feel Dragons’ emotions as strongly as my own—when no one else had ever been able.

It would explain why they could read my thoughts so clearly, and I could translate theirs into actual words. How I healed and became stronger through our connections, be trusted to enter their lairs, and bond with more than one. Especially, how I was suddenly able to actually share visual thoughts with them, as they did with each other.

This force, these powers growing naturally within, didn’t appear when I entered this world. My world. They only strengthened here, because they were always in me.

Dad had used Dragon blood to heal whatever was stopping him from procreating. He used not only Tharion’s blood, but that of the other Dragons he had affinities to, altering the very essence of who he was so he and my mom could finally have me.

And then, I inherited it… effectively creating a new strand of DNA.

I was Soulris, yes, but I was also part Dragon.
