“I know.”

“You do?”

“Of course. That’s why I told you when I’d be proposing.”

“That’s right. I suppose that fits with our idea of reliability, doesn’t it? I detest when the unexpected occurs.”

His face softened, and he nodded. “Sensible of you to know this about yourself.”

“Sensible Molly, that’s me.”

He cocked his head. “I like Sensible Molly.”

“What of Molly-in-the-cab?” she asked in a small voice.

“Molly in the…?”

She stiffened her spine. “I’m speaking of when we sampledcertain activitiesin the cab to and from the concert hall.”

Frederick closed the distance between them, approaching her near the books she guarded. “You know I did.”

“Perhaps you’ll like the combination, then, of Sensible Molly and Molly-in-the-cab. I have some books and pamphlets I wonder if you might like to borrow.”

He watched silently as she unwrapped the package and placed the texts one by one on the closest work table, arranged in order from the smallest to the largest. His eyes widened comically as he took them in.

“These helped me understand some of what we might share, Frederick. Would you like to know more, too?”

He swallowed. “Yes, I daresay.”
