A week since I last saw Alice.

I said I would meet her again. I have no idea if she will show, but I have to go and see. Part of me hopes she will be there, because I’m not done with her yet.

Kane doesn’t rise as I leave the room, too stuck inside his own head. I make my way down the corridor towards the exit. I’m so deep in thought I don’t notice Talia, my father’s assistant, coming out of the kitchen. We collide and I reach out to steady her as she totters back on her high-heeled shoes. Her manicured nails scrape over my arms as she holds on to me. Her flaming red hair is curled today, though the woman seems like she has a different style every day. “Mr Fraser… I’m so sorry. I wasn’t paying attention—”

I cut her off before she can continue. “It’s fine,” I say and release my hold on her. “Shouldn’t you have gone home by now? It’s late.”

She gives me a wry smile. “Mr Fraser needs me to help him draft some proposals.”

My father is a fucking dick. It’s late. Talia should be home.

She has been with my father for as long as I can remember. Her father is one of our lieutenants, a man called Parker Weston. He is loyal as fuck, and my father trusts his daughter with his most intimate secrets. She has proven herself over the years, yet she is still wary of us. That fear is inbuilt in the Fraser name.

“Make sure someone from security walks you to your car.”

“I will.”

I continue to the lift and push the button to call it to the floor. When I get down to the foyer, Winters is waiting for me. He leads me out to my car and together we climb in. I let him drive as my brain is fucking tired after the day I’ve had. I should have got Alice’s number. I want to be able to contact her whenever I want to. This uncertainty about whether she’ll show or not has me on fucking edge, but as much as it pisses me off, it also thrills me. I enjoy the chase.

Winters drives me home and I get showered and changed before heading back out to Tease. As always I bypass the line and head straight for the door. The bouncer lets me through and I step into the club. It’s not as busy as it was last week, but then it is earlier. I didn’t want to risk her coming before I was here.

I go over to the bar, ignoring the thumping of the music. The bartender instantly starts to make my drink. I turn back into the room and peer through the flashing lights. I don’t see my blonde-haired beauty anywhere.

For the next hour I sit at the bar, waiting like a loser. I’m debating leaving when I catch a glimpse of golden hair from across the room.

Alice.

She spots me and her eyes dart around before she slowly walks towards me, pushing through the crowd of people that has swelled since I’ve been sitting here. I take a moment to drink her in, loving the way she looks. As she was last time, she is wearing a summer dress that makes her look completely out of place amongst the other women. It reaches just above her knees, exposing her legs.

I can’t stop the grin from creeping across my face as she approaches. She peers up at me through dark lashes and I can tell by the look on her face she is not sure what she’s doing here.

“Hello, Alice.”
