“Probably.”

“I don’t want them to hurt you.” I pull my bottom lip between my teeth as I stare at him. He’s so handsome, and I’m so besotted with him.

“I’m not scared of fighting for what I want.”

“You should be scared of them. They’re ruthless.”

“They also want what’s best for their sister. They want you to be happy, Lia. Do you think they would be standing up to your parents if they didn’t? Your brothers want the choice of partner to be your own.”

“I choose you.”

“For now, yes. But if you decide this isn’t for you, either, that’s your choice as well.”

I don’t like hearing him talk like that. “Don’t say that.”

“I just mean you have the final decision over your life. Not your brothers, not your parents, not me. Don’t settle for less than you deserve.”

I roll to my toes and press my mouth to his. The kiss is warm and filled with emotion. I pour everything I have into it, and when I pull back, we’re both a little breathless. “I don’t deserve you, but I want you.”

“You deserve better than I can give you, love, but I want to give it to you anyway.”

He’s a better man than he realises, and that’s what draws me to him. I’ve been around dangerous people my entire life. My brothers are good to me and their wives, but I know they have done terrible things to others. It should bother me, but it doesn’t. My brothers take care of me. So does Ryan. The sacrifices they have all made makes them good men. Ryan has given up his life to stay with me, to protect me.

Most men would not do that.

He kisses my forehead. “Forget about your parents. Let’s have breakfast.”

He leads me into the kitchen, and for a few hours I’m able to forget about my mother, my future, and whether I’m going to be forced to marry a man three times my age.
