“It’s not happening,” Sariah assures her. “We won’t allow it.”

I feel relieved that her family has her back. There’s no fucking way I would let her go back to that house. I’d put her up at my place before I let that happen.

The lift pings, and I glance around as Kane enters with Nathan Ford—his bodyguard—on his heels.

The eldest Fraser brother cuts an imposing figure. He’s tall, broad and his dark eyes seem to see everything. Despite the late hour, he’s wearing smart trousers and a button up shirt undone at the collar.

His eyes lock on his dishevelled sister before snapping between his brothers.

“Someone start talking.”

Lucas and Zeke come to him, stepping away from Sariah and Aurelia, but they are close enough to me that I hear everything they say.

Lucas explains what Aurelia told us moments ago about her mother forcing her into a room with a Lord. Kane listens without a word and without letting a single emotion slide onto his face.

“She looks like she’s been through Hell and back,” Kane says.

“She ran all the way here, barefoot.”

“Is she hurt?”

“No. Her feet are a little cut up, but that’s the only injury I can see on her.”

“That fucker didn’t touch her, did he?” Kane’s voice is level, but the air feels like it has been sucked from the room.

“No,” Zeke replies. “She’s okay, Kane. Shook up. Tired. Scared. But okay.”

“She’s not to be alone with Charlotte or Anthony at any time.”

“Agreed.”

Kane pulls his mouth into a snarl. “Sooner or later, we’re going to have to deal with them.”

“Let’s hope it’s later. Full out war within the syndicate is not something we should be pushing for,” Zeke says, ever the voice of reason.

“It would be fun though,” Kane murmurs.

Zeke snorts at this. “You like the idea of having to fight our parents and their allies?”

“I don’t think we should rule it out.”

“Let’s just take a breath,” Lucas mutters. “Keeping our sister out of the clutches of our evil hag of a mother is all we need to focus on. How will we keep Aurelia safe?”

“Tomorrow,” Zeke says. “I’m taking her home. She needs to rest.” He pats his brother’s shoulder and moves back to Aurelia. “Are you ready to leave?”

She stands, dropping the blanket behind her, and gives Sariah a hug. My fingers itch to touch her as she comes up to us. Kane frowns at her before he kisses her forehead.

“You’re safe,” he promises.

Zeke glances at me. “Put her in the car. I’ll be down in a moment.” I give him a look. Does he think I’m going to leave him alone? “I’ll have Ford walk me down.”

That appeases me. I give Ford a glance, telling him without words to do his fucking job.

I press a hand to the small of Aurelia’s back. “Miss Fraser.”

We walk to the lift, and I activate it before pushing the button for the parking garage.

As soon as the doors shut, I turn to her. “Are you all right?”
