“I’m part of this family now and that means ensuring the safety of everyone in it.”

Luke sighs. “Is this how you got Aurelia to marry you? By being an annoying twat?”

My lips curve slightly at the corners. “I didn’t need to wear her down, Luke.”

I watch as he wrinkles his nose, lifting his hands. “I don’t need that fucking image. Fine, if you want to be there, I’ll talk to Kane. I’m not guaranteeing shit though. He might say no.”

“Thanks.”

“You got plans for what you and her are going to do when this is all done?”

“Do?”

“You can keep the apartment, but I’m guessing neither of you are going to want to go back there.”

More than that, I don’t want to be in this close of a proximity to her brother—not long term anyway. “If you’re worried I can’t provide for her, don’t be. I have money.”

Not as much as the Frasers, but I have enough to make us a good life. “Money isn’t an issue. Aurelia will always be looked after financially.”

“With all due respect, Luke, I don’t want your money. She’s mine to take care of now.”

He nods. “I thought you might feel that way.”

Aurelia’s eyes suddenly latch onto mine from across the room. She gives me a smile that makes the air trap in my chest. Fuck, she’s beautiful and she’s mine.

“Whatever happens, we have to make sure those fuckers can’t come back,” I say to Luke, not tearing my gaze from Aurelia. “We have to make sure she’s always protected. I don’t give a fuck what lines we have to cross to ensure it, we fucking do it.”

“Now you’re thinking like a Fraser.”

“I mean it,” I say. “I know they’re your parents. I’d hate for that fact to garner some last-minute sentimental feelings that might stay your hand.”

Luke snorts. “Trust me, nothing we feel for those two people can be described as sentimental.”

I turn to face him. “I mean it. Whatever we have to do to take them out of the picture is getting done.”

I cross the room to my wife, unable to stop my legs from moving in her direction. I need her in my arms, now. I need to feel her against me. As I get closer, the conversation trails off, but I don’t pay the other two women any attention. I hold my hand out to Aurelia, who takes it without question. The trust she has in me floors me. I’m not worthy of it, but I’ll spend every damned day of my life proving myself to her.

Pulling her to her feet, she is inches from me. I want to wrap her in me, but I want a moment alone. I lead her out onto the balcony, shutting the door behind us. We won’t have privacy, considering the glass wall of windows, but it’s the best I can do for now.

I walk to the railing and look down over the city. High-rises fill the horizon, a mix of old and new architecture that makes London feel both modern and like you’re in a time warp.

“Are you all right?” Aurelia asks, when I don’t say anything.

“I just needed a moment with you,” I say, pulling her against me. I don’t care who is watching. My need for her is greater than my desire to keep her brothers from attacking me.

Without a word, she wraps her arms around my waist and nuzzles against my chest. I wrap my arms around her back, pulling her close to me. I wish we were alone.

“What’s wrong?” she asks.

I kiss the top of her head, smelling whatever shampoo she’s used. “Nothing,” I say.

She peers up at me. “We’re married. No lies.”

I don’t want to burden her, but she’s also right. We are married and I don’t want to start our relationship without being open with her. “I’m worried about you.”

“I’m fine.”

“I know, but your mother is livid, and I worry what she’ll do.”
