“Will you ever tell me what happened today?”

“If you want me to.” His openness surprises me. It also makes me less inclined to know the details. Knowing he’ll give them if I want them is enough.

“I don’t.”

“Then I won’t.”

“You two are so sweet together,” Elena says from the side of us. We turn towards her.

“We love each other,” I say.

“Yeah, the whole room can see that,” Sariah laughs. “We’re going to have to explain all of this to Bailey.”

“She’ll be pissed she missed the wedding,” Elena says.

So will my nieces. “We can always have a ceremony for the family,” Ryan says, as if reading my mind.

“Yeah, a party is probably needed after all this shit.”

I smile. “I don’t need a big fancy wedding.”

“You might not,” Elena says, “but the last wedding I went to was my own, and your mother spent the whole time giving me veiled threats.”

Fucking Charlotte, though I’m not surprised. “Maybe rather than a wedding, we just have a party,” Sariah says. “There’s a lot to celebrate.”

There is. Both my sisters-in-law giving us the next generation. My marriage. Getting rid of our damned parents.

“That sounds amazing,” I say. “What do you think?” I ask Ryan.

“Whatever makes you happy, babe.”

“Definitely a keeper,” Elena says, grabbing my hand and tugging me to her. “We’ve got plans to make.”

Ryan gently pulls me back. “It can wait. We’ve got a hotel room to book into.”

Elena’s eyes alight. “Oh! Have fun.”

Ryan guides me towards the lift. “I need to talk to my brothers before we leave,” I say.

He nods and I head into the control room, where they’d disappeared. I knock before entering. My brothers lift their heads to look at me.

“Ryan and I are going to a hotel,” I say.

Kane looks as if he’s about to argue, but I hold a hand up. “He’s my husband and we need time alone to digest everything.”

“Fine,” Kane says. “Be careful. Things are still not entirely secure yet and you still have a bounty on you, thanks to Charlotte.”

“We’ll be careful,” I assure him. I pause, not sure how to put into words what I want to say next. I decide to just speak and let the words find me. “You three have always taken care of me. I know today can’t have been easy, but I’m beyond grateful for what you did for me.”

“We did it because we needed you safe. We’d do anything to ensure that.”

“I’m sorry you had to do whatever you did. It can’t have been easy. I love you all,” I say.

“We love you too,” Zeke says. “Never doubt it.”

“And if that prick you married doesn’t take care of you, we’ll show you just how true that statement is.” Luke smiles, but there’s a sinister hint to it.

“You can keep your hands to yourself,” I mutter. “And he’s been nothing short of amazing, so you have nothing to worry about.”
