“Was that a bad idea?” she asked.

I exhaled a shaky laugh. “Probably. But I can’t seem to care right now.”

I held her tightly for one more beat and then created space between us.

“I don’t think I deserved you back then,” she said.

I flashed a crooked grin and winked at her. “Oh, babe. Just what makes you think you deserve me now?”

Krystal threw her head back and laughed, like I knew she would.

“You might have me there,Captain Storm,” she said once her laughter subsided.

I rolled my eyes. “You know I’m joking. We were kids back then. Neither of us knew what the future held.” I shrugged. “Can’t say we do right now, either. But don’t underestimate your worth, Krystal Daughtry. You’re an amazing woman, friend, and actress.”

She ducked her head. “Thanks. That means a lot coming from you.”

“I mean it.”

“So what do we do about that kiss?”

I pretended to think about it. “I suggest we repeat it as often as possible,” I said with a shrug.

Krystal shook her head with a chuckle. “You’re impossible.”

I grinned. “You like it.”

She grabbed my hand, and we headed back toward the trees. “Can’t argue with that.”
