“Something you picked up in… Paris?” Rose guessed and nodded to it as she put the vacuum away, already daydreaming about the long soak she was going to have.

“Thierre got it for me.” Maia grinned as Rose cooed over it, clasping it delicately in her fingers as she inspected it.

“The same Thierre you need a break from?” She grabbed a pair of slippers from near the couch and slid them on to prevent any more dirty footprints on the floor. They were only the hotel branded ones so she knew she could replace them in a heartbeat… unlike her carpet.

“Oh,” Maia waggled her eyebrows, the pale green gemstone in her nose glittering wildly as she shook her head, “no, it’s not him I need a break from. I need abreak. Sexually.”

Rose snorted. “Good to know you were properly amorous in the city of love.”

“When in Paris,” Maia said in a thick faux French accent and they laughed together for a few moments as Rose shucked off her blazer and moved into the kitchen, pulling out the ingredients for cocktails as Maia grabbed the glasses.

“What was going on downstairs?” Maia asked once they’d settled onto the couch and queued up the Kardashians.

Rose shrugged, trying not to let her worry get to her. “They think someone intentionally stopped the elevator to get out somewhere they shouldn’t be.”

“Like the suite?” Maia’s brown eyes were wide, and Rose winced as she nodded. It was the only floor that was keycard restricted, so it had to have been where the mystery person was heading –buy why? It was true that Rose lived a seemingly glamorous life, but she didn’t have much worth stealing unless they were interested in designer handbags – she’d made her ambivalence to expensive jewelry known in the press enough times that nobody would bother coming here looking for that. But if not for theft, what else could they have wanted?

“They’ve got extra security coming in and watching all the floors. We’re probably even safer now than we were before,” Rose eventually replied, and Maia’s full lips pursed as Rose avoided the real question before Maia decided to let it go.

If theft wasn’t the goal and the suite hadn’t been tampered with… what was someone looking for on the top floor?
