He seemed… off. His mouth was unusually tight at the corners as he glanced between her and Callum and Rose clamped down on a laugh. Was he jealous? She struggled not to let her eyes widen in surprise but couldn’t stop the smile from forming on her lips, so she quickly busied herself with more margarita.

“You do know…” she said, leaning in after watching Blake’s expression darken further the more tales Cal told of Rose’s so-called ‘wild’ party days. The downsides to going to college with your cousin. “That the reason Cal and I are so close…”

Blake’s head turned towards her the slightest amount, his hand tight around his whiskey glass, and she wanted to laugh.

“Is that he’s my cousin? Practically like my brother. We went to college together, you know.”

Blake jerked and Rose couldn’t keep her laugh in that time. His lips rose in a smirk as he realized she’d played him for a fool. “Well, I suppose you can’t still be that close, or does he know that I’m your dirty little secret?”

She rolled her eyes. “It was one measly hook-up, Blake. Sorry to deflate your ego, but I’ve barely thought about you since.”

“I see,” he murmured, but his eyes were full of amusement as if he could see straight through her lies.

Maia caught her eye across the table and gave an unabashed eyebrow wiggle and mouthed, “blushing” at her with a grin.

Rose mumbled a curse that turned into a quiet gasp as Blake’s hand brushed her leg under the table. It was like electricity fired through her, tightening her body to fine points that were so pleasurable it bordered on pain as his hand languidly brushed higher. Why did it have to behimthat had this effect on her?

“Don’t you agree, darling?”

“Er–what?” she asked desperately, hand reaching down and clamping onto Blake’s to prevent him from venturing any higher.

“I was saying to Grace how nice it is that you and David can work together on his project.”

“Ah – yes, so nice.”

Maia smirked and leaned in to whisper to Callum. Great. Now more people knew that she’d screwed Blake. Though, on the plus side, it wasn’t exactly a short list of people that’d had the misfortune of Blake’s company. Blake’s lips curled, as if he too were remembering just howniceworking together had been so far.

Rose kept her eyes on Maia and mouthedtraitorto her at the first opportunity, knowing she was correct in her conclusions when Cal gave her a shit-eating grin.

Blake’s hand distracted her again as it crept under the hem of her dress slowly. She was frozen. She should stop this. She should push him away. Why wasn’t she pushing him away? She could have, easily. Maybe she had something to prove, maybe she just didn’t want him to stop touching her just yet. She looked up and met his eyes and gave him a slow blink of disinterest, struggling to stop her mouth from twitching in laughter as he took in her challenging stare.

“I mean, I have worked with better clients, Mother, but yes, I suppose it has beennicecatching up with Blake. Just yesterday he re-introduced me to his handsome friend, Christopher.”

The heat in Blake’s eyes betrayed his twinge of jealousy, but mostly he looked amused and… hungry. She gave an involuntary jerk as his fingers brushed against the outside of her panties, taunting her. The table had fallen unusually silent. Maia was looking back and forth between Rose and Blake with wide eyes while Annabel and Grace watched them with pleased pursed lips, side-eyeing each other in apparent glee.

“Well, we are glad to see you both are getting along so well. You used to be such good friends.”

“Mm, yes, I have plenty of other friends now though, Mother.”

Blake grinned at her words. “Well, that doesn’t mean thatwecan’t be friendly though, does it?” he asked as a finger slowly slid under the scrap of lace covering her.

“Quite right!” Grace chimed in and normal chatter resumed between her and Annabel. Rose lifted her eyes to Blake’s. His were teasing, and a smile played around his mouth – with a small jolt she realized she wanted to kiss it. She hadpromisedherself this was a one-time thing – yet here she was, David Blake’s fingers perilously close to the wetness rapidly gathering between her legs. Maia would never let her live it down. But… damn, hewasgreat in bed. Or, well, studies. They hadn’t actually made it to a bed yet.

God,yet?Where had that come from? She took a steadying breath and stood up quickly. Blake muttered a curse as he quickly withdrew his hand before anyone could see but Rose thought she caught a knowing look on Maia’s face and struggled to contain her blush.

“I just need the ladies’. I’ll be back in a minute. Feel free to order for me.”

Keeping her legs steady was the hard part as she walked down a small set of steps that led to the restrooms. Just as she reached the door, she felt a hand grasp her shoulder and gave a gasp of alarm.

“I thought you might need some help,” Blake murmured into her ear as he pressed his front to her back.

“Help peeing?” she attempted to quip, but even she could hear that there was no heat to the barb.

“No. Help with… other things.” Blake rocked against her, just once, but it was enough to feel the length of him against her ass. “Seeing as our last encounter was so unmemorable, well, I never like to leave a lady dissatisfied.”

“Funny, that’s all I ever feel around you.”

“Now, now,” he said directly into her ear, “I don’t think that’s entirely true, princess.” Her hand was still pressed to the white door that led to the bathrooms and she shivered in the corridor as Blake slid a hand up the back of her thighs and slapped her ass. “That’s for lying.”
