She flipped the photo over and her breath caught in her chest.I’m coming. That was it. Just two words. Two words that held more threat and promise than a whole slew of words. He knew where she was – well, she supposed everyone did. Her arrival to Blake’s had been recorded by dozens of cameras. But that didn’t mean he could get in.

Did Blake know about this and not tell her? God, when would he stop trying to control her life? He was as bad as her mother, scheming and lying and only giving her half the information in a bid to control her better.

“Princess, where did you–” Blake stopped in the doorway, face going blank as he saw what she held in her hand.

“It had my name on it,” she said quietly, and he took a single step forward. “Were you going to tell me?”

He looked away. “Yes.”

“When?”

A hand pushed through his hair, leaving it damp as he met her eyes again. “Once you’d had a chance to settle in. You barely ate breakfast this morning and you never stop, Rose. I just wanted to give you a day without worry.”

“That’s not a decision for you to make for me.” She grit her teeth as she slammed the photo and envelope back down onto the counter. “This ismylife. What I eat, what I do with my time, who I fuck, that’s formeto decide. Not you. Don’t ever keep things from me again, Blake. Or–”

“Or what?” he interrupted silkily. “You’ll cuss me out? Leave? The funny thing is, Rose, even if you do that, we both know you’ll end up right back here in my bed anyway.”

She recoiled. “That’s–”

“Not the truth? That you don’t like it when I fuck you? If you want to lie to yourself, fine. But don’t lie to me.”

She stared at him, towel clutched tightly to her chest as her hair continued to slowly drip down her back, droplets forming on the floor beneath her. He wanted to poke and prod at the tender parts of her, then fine. As long as he knew she would poke back.

“Christopher would never speak to me the way you just did.”

“And yet, you turned up onmydoorstep. Not his.”

Her hands flew up as she took a frustrated step forward before her towel slipped and she quickly slapped them down, tugging the material back into place and exhaling roughly as she turned away.

“Get this to Jones,” she said as she brushed past him, ignoring the warmth from his skin and the tic of his jaw as his eyes followed her out.

“That’s it?”

“That’s it.”

“That’s seriously all you have to say to me.” His voice was flat and Rose turned at the bottom of the staircase to look back at him.

“I have a delivery coming later today. Don’t let your security guards leak the contents to the press.”

“Fine.”

“Fine.”
