Naturally, I’m suspicious. A man like Dante Bernardi doesn’t ‘just find out’ anything. His finger is always on the pulse of what his people are up to. It has to be, just as mine does.

But it could mean peace. It could mean protecting Delilah—and my family, which strangely enough comes second in my thoughts at the moment. Could be because the scent of her still lingers on me.

“What do you think?” Jock prompts.

“What do you think?” I counter.

“I think it’s worth a shot, if only to hear him out.” He narrows his eyes. “But we’ve got to be careful.”

“Of course, of course.” It doesn’t take much consideration, really. “Let’s set up a meeting.”

I can only hope the man is serious about wanting to put an end to this.
