Nix walks in, instantly zoning on my shorts, catching me with the world’s most painful boner. “Why do you have an erection in my kitchen?” he demands, his brows knitting together.

Because your wife is hot as fuck and I had her cornered with my hand down her shorts a minute ago.

“Uh, hot girl from your engagement party sent me naked pics. Couldn’t help myself. Sorry, man.”

The look he’s giving me revs my anxiety up to a hundred. Fuck, Rush is probably in the security room. He could’ve seen what was going on and told Nix.

“Are you still twelve, getting boners from anything that moves?” Nix grins before letting it fall, slipping his usual mask back on.

Not too far off—I’m getting boners at the thought of your girl.

“Anyway, Tara’s stuff is moved in and her friends are gone—wanna order pizza and hang tonight?”

Not exactly what I expected him to say. But it feels like a weight has been lifted off my chest.

“Yeah, sure. What about Tara?”

He grunts, waving his hand. “If she wants to join, fine, but if not, it won’t hurt me any.” I know he’s trying to hate her, but I can tell something’s going through that stubborn brain of his.

“Wouldn’t hurt to ask. She’s been moving shit all day, so she’s probably hungry. ”I have no idea why I’m encouraging this; I should be trying to keep her as far away as possible.

“That’s her own fucking fault. I tried to get her to hire movers.”

I nod, trying not to provoke him. Someone that’s grown up with money doesn’t get the need to do everything yourself out of pride. “A girl like that doesn't like to be told what to do,” I breathe. Immediately realizing what I said, I back-pedal, trying to cover my tracks. “At least that’s what I get from the few times I’ve been around her.”

Like that was much better.

“You seemed to be getting to know her pretty well at the reception last night.”

Damn.I was hoping he was so wasted he didn’t remember that.

“The girl’s married to my best friend. I’ve gotta make sure she’s not gonna screw you over.” I wink at him, hoping he’ll let this go.

“I can handle Tara. I’ve got her right where I want her.” Nix narrows his eyes at me before his phone rings, breaking the tension between us. Pulling out his cell, he looks down at the screen. “Speaking of Tara, you seen her?”

“Went upstairs.”

Without a response to me, Nix answers his phone, sauntering out of the kitchen toward the stairs.

I have no idea how I’m supposed to keep this from him. I don’t want to ruin anything, but it’s going to eat me alive keeping this secret. I need to tell him. He deserves to know, even if he hates me for it.

Shaking my head, I take another swig of my beer. I need some ink therapy. I grab another beer before I head back to my house to do some shading on the rose I inked on my thigh, just while I wait for Nix to order us some food.

I need to stay as far away from this woman as possible. I hope she doesn’t take Nix up on the offer I suggested, and just decides to hole herself in her room. Preferably for the whole year, but I know that won’t be possible.

She’s going to be the death of me. This is too much for me to handle.

I’m weaker than Nix knows. Or anyone, for that matter.
