“Fuck. You. I won’t allow either to happen.” Greyson’s eyes have fire in them, and I’m terrified he’s going to make the wrong move, causing his father to hurt both of us. No matter what happens tonight, I know that we aren’t getting out unscathed.

“Grey. It’s okay. It will be okay. Just do it, please. Please. I don’t want his hands on me. Please do it, it’ll be okay.” I’m trying to convince myself as well as him. It’s going to hurt so bad, but I’d rather suffer at Greyson’s hands than let his father violate me. I’m standing here, begging the boy who was trying to save me to destroy me all over again.

“No, Lainey.” His desperate eyes soften as they look at my sobbing face. I hadn’t realized I was crying until the tears started dropping onto my shirt just now.

“That’s your choice then, son. Looks like I finally get to see this pretty pink pussy.” Omega spins me around so I’m facing him. He winds one arm back and punches me directly in the face, catching me off guard. A throbbing pain spreads through my cheek.

“That was for trying to escape, you stupid slut.” He lands another punch into my ribs, knocking the wind out of me. I crumple forward, trying to catch my breath. While I’m bent forward, his knee comes up into my face, making me collapse to the ground and curl into a ball. I can feel blood pouring down my face, but I can’t tell exactly where it’s coming from. Every inch of my body hurts and he hasn’t even started doing what he promised.

I hear a roar coming from above me. I see Greyson’s body attached to his father’s, throwing punches over and over again. The two go back and forth, and blood flies through the air, splattering down onto my face.

“You stupid bastard. All of this for some whore,” his father grunts into the air, but the two of them don’t stop. All of a sudden, I hear Greyson groan in agony and it sparks a fire inside of me. I can see his swollen face in the shadowy night. He’s beaten pretty bad, but I can help. We’re in this together to the end, no backing down now.

Getting to my feet, I rush toward his father and latch onto his back, wrapping my legs around his waist and reaching my hands around to claw at his face as hard as I can.

“Fucking bitch.” He slams his elbow back into my side, knocking the wind out of me again. Pain slices through my already hurt ribs, but I keep holding on. He reaches up and grabs onto my hand, twisting it as hard as he can. A scream rips out of my throat, as I go limp and slide off his back.

Looking at my hand, I see it’s morphed into an unnatural position. Pain ripples through me, and I sob louder and louder as I lay on the ground, rocking back and forth.

Greyson attacks his father again, but he’s knocked to the ground with a vicious kick. Omega punches him over and over again until Greyson stops moving. My thoughts turn from the throbbing in my hand to his lifeless body. My stomach drops at the thought of him being dead.

“No! Stop, please stop. Do what you want to me, but stop hurting him.”

Omega stills and he turns his head toward me, a wicked grin etched across his face as blood drips down it. He leaves Greyson’s limp body, and stalks toward me. It’s clear that Greyson and I will say and do whatever it takes to protect the other—something that will end up getting both of us killed someday... Maybe today.

I try to scoot away from him as fast as I can and get to my feet, but he’s faster than me. He leans over my body and roughly grabs my throat, squeezing it as hard as possible. I’m gasping for air as I try to kick and push him away.

My lungs suddenly feel like they’re collapsing, and I welcome the idea that this is it for me. A smile spreads across my face, knowing that I’ll never have to suffer again. I don’t want to leave Greyson behind, but I know he’ll be better off if I’m no longer there causing problems between him and Omega. He just needs to get out on his own instead of trying to save me. Stars float across my eyes and the darkness grabs me, as I take one last breath.

When I wake up, my head is throbbing in pain. Reaching out my arm, I realize I’m lying in bed. My navy blue silk sheets wrap around my slightly sweaty body, hugging me tightly.

Looking out the window, the moonlight shines in, letting me know I’ve been out for a while.Did I pass out?One of the guys must have carried me in here.

Memories of my conversation with Lya flood my mind.Greyson? She was with Greyson? My Greyson?

No. Not mine. Not anymore.

This is too much to take in. I pull the covers over my head, trying to drown everything out, but a soft knock at my door pulls me from my thoughts.

“Come in.” My voice is barely audible, in my attempt to not make this headache any worse.

“How are you feeling?” The gravelly tone that enters my room takes me by surprise. Of all people, Zep was the last one I expected to check on me. I figured it would have been Lya or Thiago, definitely not Zep.

“I’m, uh, good, I guess. My head is pounding and my mind is racing, but I’ll live.” Shrugging my shoulders, I try to act unfazed, even though I’m freaking the fuck out.

His large, tattooed frame leans against the doorjamb. “It’s okay to not be okay. We all go through rough shit. You don’t need to pretend around here. No one in this house will judge you for feeling the way you do.” He tilts his head toward the chair in my room, silently asking if he can come in. I nod.

“You’re kind of easy to read, you know, Lainey. You’re strong, you have confidence, but you’re scared. And that’s okay. But when you get backed into a corner, you tend to either shut down completely or get overly worked up and defensive.”

“Where’s Lya?” I ask calmly, trying to ignore what he just said. It’s the truth, but the longer I pretend I don’t have issues, the longer I can live in ignorance.

“She wasn’t sure you would want to see her. She’s beating herself up pretty bad about it all, and blames herself for not seeing through Greyson. He got past us all though—no one saw it coming.”

“What was he like?” I know I shouldn’t ask, but I need to know who the boy who betrayed me grew up to be.

Zep scoffs.“A real fucking prick.”

“So another version of you?” I say playfully, trying to lighten the mood.
