I ignore his reasoning and move on. “Do we have the weapons ready?”
“Zep’s handling that.”
As soon as he finishes speaking, Zep comes out of the house with a large duffel bag on his shoulder.
“I’ve got everything we need—Glocks, knives, and Kevlar for the girls.”
“Jesus, where did you get all of this shit?”Where the hell does he keep all of this?I wonder if we’re really going to need this many weapons, but probably better to be safe than sorry.
Zep sets the bag down beside the G-Wagon, giving me a good view of all the ammo, switchblades, and guns. “First of all, you never know what you’re going to need in the moment, so it’s better to be prepared. Second, I’m a collector, so be careful with my babies or I’ll beat you up again.” He’s trying to joke for once, but it just riles me up more.
“Yeah, right. I won’t let that happen again.” I nudge past him, looking at the weapons to see what I can use. The thought of Lainey even needing the Kevlar scares the shit out of me. Lya’s supposed to stay by her side the whole time though—I may not fully trust her, but I know she can handle herself, and she’d never let anything happen to Lainey.
“If all goes according to plan, they shouldn’t need these,” I mumble, picking up the vest.
“Yeah, but we can never be too comfortable. I rather them be safe,” Zep states firmly.
Lya and Lainey step out of the house behind Thiago’s large frame. Fuck, Lainey looks so beautiful. Her hair is pulled back in a high ponytail, and she’s only wearing jeans and one of Lya’s Craibridge University t-shirts, but she looks fucking stunning.
Her eyes find mine and she gives me a sweet smile that shatters my tough guy exterior. I’m never scared of anything, but I’ll admit right now that I’m fucking afraid. Terrified that something will happen to her.
She’s the only thing in this world that means anything to me. If something happens to her, I won’t make it. Without her, I’ll turn into the devil I always thought I was. She’s the only thing keeping me grounded and sane.
“Hey,” she murmurs, giving me a quick kiss. That isn’t enough for me, I need more. I pull her against my body and kiss her like my life depends on it, like it’s the last time I’ll ever see her.
She deepens it, sucking my bottom lip into her mouth. The warmth of her tongue makes me wish it was swirling around my cock, which is already straining in my jeans right now.
“Hey, yourself,” I whisper against her lips.
“I’ve decided something.” Her eyes are shining with confidence so whatever it is, she’s pretty happy with her decision.
“What’s that?” I ask, not really thinking about anything but her body rubbing against mine.
“I want to kill Harvey.”
Wait, what?That gets my attention. “What do you mean? Really?”
“When you disable him in the warehouse, I want to be the one to take him out. He ruined my life and so many other lives. I want to take his.” The determination in her eyes burns as bright as the sun, but I also see a tiny bit of fear.
I hate the fact she wants to do something that I know will haunt her for the rest of her life, but I understand more than anyone the need to have the blood of your monster on your hands.
“Are you sure? It will stay with you forever, Lainey.”
“I’ve thought about this a lot lately. You took my first demon, and I want to take the other one.” Her gaze doesn’t waver from mine. My angel is far stronger than anyone thinks.

"Angel, you can change your mind at any point, even if you’re standing there about to pull the trigger. I don’t want you to be tainted from this.”
“I’m already ruined, Grey.”
There’s no way I can tell her no, even though I know it’ll blacken her heart even more.
“Okay,” I whisper, understanding her statement more than she’ll ever know.
She tangles her fingers in my hair, pulling me in for an intense kiss, her soft lips commanding mine. Running my hand down her back, I squeeze her ass, pulling her harder against my pulsing erection.
I wish we had more time, so I could make her scream my name as I pound into her.
