“Alright,” I said, heading past him to the door to the cabin I’d been given. “I’ll prepare everything for your bath.”

Dmitri frowned, as though he were disappointed by my lack of a reaction. Had he actually expected me to fight against him? I’d already lost. I’d agreed to be his pup, and that was that. What did he think I would do? Back out of the deal?

Actually, he probably did think I’d back out. In fact, I wondered if he’d believed I would refuse to go through with the arrangement.

I wasn’t certain whether I should be insulted by that or not. I was a man of my word, if nothing else. I didn’t have to like something to stick to it.

I entered the cabin and took the bucket to the tiny table built into the wall. I managed to pour some of the water from the bucket into the pitcher, then found the soap and set it on the folded washcloth on the wash stand. Even though my cabin was bigger than Dmitri’s, there was hardly enough room to turn around, let alone sleep two men for the remainder of our journey to Good Port.

Maybe I would sleep up on the deck. I’d gotten used to sleeping under the stars during the course of our journey in the forest. I wouldn’t mind at all.

“I trust you’re planning to behave?” I heard Captain Andreas’s voice in the hall and left what I was doing so I could be there when he set Dmitri free.

“I will if you will,” Dmitri said with a snarl.

Captain Andreashumphedand shook his head as he unlocked the shackle on Dmitri’s wrist. “I sided with Olympus Hakobyan and the others in the vote to free you,” he said. “You’d better not make me wish I’d voted with Magnus.”

I wasn’t much for smiling, but if I had been, I would have smiled at that. Captain Andreas was playing his part well. Judging by the way Dmitri’s shoulders relaxed a hair as the man turned the key to free him, he believed the ruse. Then again, Dmitri had no reason to suspect we were all acting our parts in a play that would end with his death as soon as we learned what we needed to know.

As soon as the shackle dropped from his wrist, Dmitri let out a groan and rubbed that wrist with his free hand. He stepped away from the door to his wrecked cabin and towards me.

“That’s better,” he said, breaking into a toothy smile. “Now, pup, it’s time you earned your keep.”

My eyes went wide. He couldn’t possibly expect to have his way with me then and there, could he?

Captain Andreas sent me a concerned look. Dmitri’s back was to him, so he didn’t see it. I tried not to react. The more people Dmitri thought he could win to his side, the easier it would be to learn what we needed to know and to be done with him.

I backed up as Dmitri came close. He laughed and shook his head at me, then stepped into my cabin.

“This will do,” he said, turning a circle to take in the small space. He must have spotted the bathing things, because his smile widened and he said, “Get in here and bathe me, pup.”

My brow shot up. Was that his idea of me earning my keep?

There wasn’t anything else to do, so I nodded once to the captain, then stepped into my cabin, shutting the door behind me. Dmitri had already started peeling off his clothes. He was just as filthy as I’d been before my bath earlier, and in the confined space of the cabin, his scent was strong.

“You find me so distasteful, pup?” Dmitri teased me, tossing his dirty shirt on the floor, then turning to me. “You didn’t find me so disgusting those first few nights we spent camped together.”

My face flooded with heat. Dmitri was gorgeous. His personality didn’t detract from that. Yes, he’d caught me staring at his naked chest by the light of the fire a few of the early nights of our acquaintance. He’d caught me watching him while we all bathed in a cold stream Riley had found shortly before we’d run into General Rufus’s soldiers. He knew I’d been intrigued by what I’d seen.

“I would have thought you’d be champing at the bit to get your hands on me,” he said with a predatory gleam in his eyes as he bent to pull off his boots. “You can’t lie and tell me you don’t want me. Your eyes tell a different story.”

I turned my head so he couldn’t see my eyes, choosing to cross the cramped space so that I could pour water from the pitcher into the basin for him instead.

Dmitri laughed at me. “That isn’t going to hide it, pup,” he said, dropping his second boot, then undoing the fastenings of his trousers. “You can’t run or hide from the fact that you’re as much of a whore as any other pup. You probably can’t wait to have my fat cock pounding away in your ass.”

I heated even more, doing my best not to envision what Dmitri was suggesting as I dipped the washcloth into the water. For some reason, the night I’d spent with Randy came to mind. He’d filled me magnificently. Ludvig wasn’t bad, really, but Randy had been fit and hard…and Dmitri’s body was even more sculpted than his.

I did my best to keep my eyes averted, especially after Dmitri dropped his trousers and kicked them to the side. I held out the wet washcloth to him, hoping he wouldn’t push me into doing anything I didn’t want to do.

If there was such a thing. It had been more than a month since I’d had sex of any kind, and as much as I hated to admit it, I wasn’t made of stone.

“Oh, no, pup,” Dmitri said with a chuckle. “I’m not washing myself when I have you here, perfectly capable of doing it for me.”

I snapped my head up, out of surprise, if nothing else. “Me?” I asked. “You want me to wash you?”

The cabin was dim as the sun set outside its single, small porthole. The lamp I’d lit earlier still swung from its hook in the ceiling in the corner of the room. It was enough light to see the firm lines of Dmitri’s body, the breadth of his chest and the dark hair that drew a line down his belly to his groin. I shouldn’t have let myself react to the size and state of his cock. He was impressive. Peter had never mentioned that.

“Well?” he demanded. “Don’t just stand there and gawp at what you’d love to have a taste of. I’m filthy. Get to work cleaning me up.”
