Dmitri gave me a look of utter revulsion as he stepped around me, shoving me as he did and making me lose my balance.

I stumbled, my insides feeling like rubbish on fire. It shouldn’t have hurt. Dmitri’s insults absolutely should. Not. Have. Hurt. But they did. I couldn’t even be a fuck toy for a sadist without failing at it and being passed over for someone who was a better whore than I was.

“Clean him up, pup,” Dmitri ordered me as he snatched a shirt and outer tunic from the bed, then headed for the door. “I’m going to find out the truth about this nonsense of the estate being locked down, but when I come back, I want to fuck that whore’s ass while he fucks yours and makes you cry.”

He reached the door, then marched out into the hall without a second glance for me, slamming the door behind him.

ChapterEight

Iwas too stung to do anything for a moment. I felt like I’d been through a wringer.

But that only pissed me off. I shouldn’t feel so hurt. I didn’t care what Dmitri thought of me. I hated the man. He was an abusive prick. I’d just watched him do horrible things to a man I lo—to Hayk.

Just like I’d stood outside the door, peeking in at my father fucking Dane, and wondering why it wasn’t me, why I wasn’t good enough.

I hated myself so much.

“Don’t look so traumatized,” Hayk said, his voice hoarse, pushing himself to his feet. Of all things, he smiled as he wiped Dmitri’s cum off his face. “We’ve already learned one valuable thing from the bastard.”

“What would that be?” I asked, my voice even rougher than his.

Hayk laughed softly and shook his head, strolling over to me as if he’d had a polite tea with Dmitri instead of having his throat fucked. “Dmitri didn’t have anything to do with Eneko’s death, but he’s desperate to get out of the Hakobyan estate. But why? Why does he want out? And if he was trying to run off, why did he come back? And why didn’t he take you with him this morning?”

“He doesn’t care about me,” I said, knowing full well I sounded like a gloomy little shit.

“Are you kidding?” Hayk gaped at me. “He followed you all the way from the eastern forest. He looks at you like you’re a bag of gold. Of course he wants you. Who wouldn’t?”

His last question made me flinch. I was tempted to answer “Everybody”, but I was too stuck on the first part of his statement.

Before I could say anything, Hayk curled his lip and cleared his throat and said, “Is there somewhere you could clean me up, like Dmitri told you to?”

I flinched at my own stupidity for not taking him straight to the washroom. “In here,” I said, crossing the room and trusting he would follow me.

Once we were in the washroom and Hayk saw the bathtub, he decided he needed an entire bath, not just to wash his hands and face and accept the glass of water I pumped from the sink. He drank deeply, then moved to work the pump on the bathtub. I supposed he had a right to it, after what he’d just been through.

“Dmitri didn’t follow me from the eastern forest,” I said, shifting uncomfortably as I watched him fill the tub. I felt like I should be doing more than just watching him in the wake of what Dmitri had done to him. I should be…comforting him? Patting his back and telling him it would be alright? “He’s using me as a shield so Magnus doesn’t kill him. And Magnus wants me to find out what Dmitri knows.”

Hayk shook his head. “If Dmitri’s first priority was to preserve his life, he would have bolted at the first sight of your King Magnus. He wouldn’t have gotten on a boat with him for three days. He wouldn’t have come back to the Hakobyan estate after sneaking out this morning, like you said he did. Dmitri is still here because you have something he needs.”

My eyes went wide. “I don’t have anything. I don’t know anything either. I’m just a stupid pup who he doesn’t even want to fuck now, apparently.”

To my surprise, Hayk laughed out loud, though the sound caused him to cough because of his sore throat.

When he recovered enough to speak, he croaked out, “He’s scared of you.”

“What?” I shouted, so loudly I startled myself. I lowered my voice considerably and went on with, “Dmitri is not scared of me.Hescares the shit out ofmehalf the time.”

“No, he doesn’t,” Hayk said with a smirk.

“Um, I think I would know who scares me and who doesn’t,” I argued.

Hayk laughed at me again…and looked at me as if I were the most fascinating thing he’d seen all day. And like he wished it was my cock that had choked him.

“Anton,” he said in an almost scolding tone as he continued to pump water into the tub, “Dmitri can see you’re friends with a king who wants to kill him. He can also see you’re not scared of him.”

“Haven’t we already established that Iamscared of him?” I scowled, then turned to fetch some of the good-smelling soap from the cupboard.

“You are not. You’ve got balls of iron, my friend.” Hayk paused, and when I turned around, he was eyeing me like a piece of meat he wanted to devour. “I wouldn’t mind tasting those balls myself,” he said, almost as if he could hear my thoughts.
