She nodded and bit her lip as tears filled her eyes. “I said no. To New York—to all of it.”

“Wren…”

“I said no to something good for the chance at something great.” She looped her arms around my neck and popped up on her tiptoes. “And whatever that looks like for us, I’m going to give you nothing less than everything I have to give.”

“So, what’s next?” I asked as I looped my arm around her waist and guided her toward Gideon and Heidi.

Wren shrugged, but I didn’t miss the devious smile on her lips. “I have a few ideas.”

“I like this,” I said and ran my finger along the back of her jersey. Bryant Jr. was plastered on her back. “I like seeing you with my last name.”

She blushed. “Yeah?”

“Yeah.” I turned to her. “Tell me something, Little Bird.”

“Hm?”

“Are you happy?”

Wren closed her eyes, wrapping her arms around my neck as she tilted her head, slanting her mouth over mine. Confetti stuck out from mussed strands of hair. “Ecstatic.”
