“It just seems like you are a little nervous being here with me,” he said.

“No, it's not you. I have to tell you this was my very first time as you well know doing this type of thing and I think I'm just now coming off of the nerves that I built up waiting for it to end.”

“You have to know that you were amazing.”

“Maybe that's the problem. I agree I think today went really well but the trick is in keeping it up.”

“If I didn't think you had a well of talent to pull from, I would have never started this.”

“And you’re so sure?”

“We've all told you how good you were before the show and now today just confirmed it.”

Claudia sipped at her water again.

“I hear you, but I think it is in my nature to worry.”

Then Claudia looked over his shoulder and her expression changed from relaxed to something he had never seen on her face before, anger.

“What’s going on?” Austin asked as he looked over his shoulder.

Claudia looked at him helpless and then at a couple across the way.

“The couple across the way, I know the woman.”

Austin wasn’t sure what the problem was. The woman was attractive, but she was with a man that must have been saying something very harsh to her. With every word he said the woman looked like she was falling into herself.

“You want me to go over there and talk to the man she’s with.”

Claudia stopped and for a moment he thought she might say yes but she shook her head.

“I don’t want to intrude. I’ve recently become friends with her and there is something I know for a fact. These things take time for women to decide with they are going to do with their lives but in the end, they have to decide.”

Austin looked at the woman in front of him stronger the woman he had first met.

“Is that what happened? If you don't mind talking about it. You made a decision.”

Claudia nodded slowly.

“I don't mind talking about it and yes I made a decision. There was a time when I would have mind talking about it and to me that was an indication that I wasn't quite over it. People always ask the same questions, so I'll answer some of them before you start.

I can't tell you it was because I was young. he wasn't my first love. I don't have any of these excuses or common stories you might hear. I actually had a career and everyone looking at me I had a great life. the thing about it was I was lonely. I had been but didn't have people. When I met Larry, he was everything I thought I wanted. The bar was kind of low to be honest. I felt as though I had nothing and no one and then he was there. Then he started picking at me soon after.”

“Picking at you?”

“Yes, you see I wasn’t what he wanted in a wife, and he had ideas on how to help me and I disagreed in private. I would have left right away but I was pregnant, and I thought I had to stay. After a couple of corrective incidents I lost my baby.”

“Claudia I’m sorry I didn’t’ mean to bring up something so painful.”

Austin watched Claudia blinked rapidly and then smile.

“I don't run away from those events anymore. It's true they were painful at the time but now they are just lessons for me.”

“Lessons?”

“The lesson is that someone needs to be honest with me. The man I trust also has to accept me the way that I am. I spent a lot of time trying to be someone that I wasn’t, and I paid a heavy price for it.”

“Did the rest of his family know?” Austin asked.
