She bit her lip.

“Yeah, let’s do it.”

Getting backto Dylan’s place, she couldn’t say she was surprised that he lived in a penthouse, but it didn’t stop her mouth from dropping open at the sight of it once he opened his door to let her inside.

The place was absolutely huge. Large enough to be a small palace, in her opinion.

Beautiful marble flooring lined the entire space, giving the penthouse the exact luxurious feel she’d only seen in magazines as a kid.

Dylan pulled her farther inside by her arm, gently guiding her past the kitchen, which looked like it had been pulled right out of aKitchens & Bathsmagazine, and over to his living area that faced the city skyline.

His windows were floor-to-ceiling with minimal paneling so as not to disturb the view of the twinkling lights from the buildings surrounding them. In the corner, Rose noted a large grand piano with the top up, as well as a full sectional taking up space on the opposite side of the room.

There was even a wet bar behind it that looked fully stocked.

“Wow” was all she could think to say.

He smiled at her, dropping his hand from her arm and stuffing his hands into his pockets. He walked backward toward the piano to let her get a good look around, a sheepish expression settling onto his face.

“You like it?”

She nodded, slowly trailing around the entire space to marvel at it. Paintings were tastefully placed around the wall space that separated the kitchen from the other rooms ... one of them she could only assume was his bedroom. She moved to one of them, taking in the pretty scene.

“Dylan, I have to say, you have great taste.”

“Thank you,” came his quiet response. Rose turned to look at him again. He took one of his hands out of his pocket and coughed into his fist. “I, uh … don’t generally have company over. So …”

“Am I invading?”

“God, no. Not at all. I’m happy you’re here, actually.”

She bit her lip. How was it that he continued to flatter her like this with such simple words that he probably thought nothing of when he said them? It was truly something.

Setting her bag down on the side of the sectional, she headed to the wet bar. Her eyes took in the top shelf liquor he had stored on one of the glass panels. She leaned into the counter of the bar, hearing the soft shuffling of his shoes as he walked over to her.

“Want something?”

“Do you have any wine?”

Dylan moved around the bar. “Of course. Anything specific?”

“Surprise me.”

That seemed to delight him by the way his eyes lit up. His hand immediately grabbed one of the wine glasses from the holster above the bar and set it on the counter. She smiled when he popped the cork on a bottle of red and poured her a generous glass.

She took it when he slid it over to her. “Join me?”

He chuckled softly. “Well, if you insist.”

Pouring himself a glass, he corked the bottle again and guided her to the sectional. She folded herself onto one of the cushions in the center, tucking her leg underneath her while he went to the record player displayed next to his grand piano.

“Tell me what you want to listen to first.”

Rose sipped her wine, taking in the rich flavors. “I love Dead Kennedys.”

“You got it.”
