“Immediately. Time is of the essence. This way,” Harlin said as he led them from eth throne room and down a long hallway. “This way to the stables.”

Daemona’s brows raised in surprise, as she hurried afterward. “I’ll need to get my things together.”

“Already done,” answered Harlin without facing her.

She glared at Harlin’s backside admiring his firm buttocks. “What do you mean?”

Harlin continued, “Marcenko sold you out on that one too, but don’t be too mad at him. We need to hurry. Making you listen was the hard part. I couldn’t have you run, which I knew would happen if I came to your flat.”

“Guess I can’t trust anyone.”

Harlin shook his head. “That’s where you’re wrong. From here on out, you need to trust us with your life, just as we will trust you.”

Ghul Lykos didn’t look any happier about that than she did, but there wasn’t a choice anymore was there? She knew of Harlin’s code of honor and chivalry, but she would have to keep an eye on the wild man of the swamps.

They soon reached eth stables, but Daemon felt her waning powers and said, “Listen, I need to replenish my strength, is there someone I could spend a moment with, a butler, a man servant, a stable boy even?”

“A stableboy?” guffawed Ghul Lykos.

“You’d be surprised at their enthusiasm,” Daemona said with a wicked grin.

Ghul Lykos frowned in disgust.

Harlin shook his head,” There isn’t time. We need to be on our way.”

“It would only take a few moments and I need to be reinvigorated.”

A young page of perhaps eighteen years with a bowl haircut overheard their conversation and stepped forward, “Lord, if it might please the lady, I should like to volunteer to oblige her.”

“I don’t believe it,” Ghul Lykos said. “A volunteer for a succubus. Damned fool.”

“She is our succubus, and we need her to be at her best, I had though to keep her hungry and ready for our enemies but perhaps,” Harlin said as he gave a nod to the page.”

The page smiled as he bowed to Daemona. “Where might we?”

“I think the loft in the stables will do just fine for a first time,” she said, “Though I sense this s a first for you and I fear no milk maid will ever feel so good as I do. It sets an unattainable precedent.”

The page rubbed at himself as his face turned red. Daemona took him by the hand and led him toward the loft. They climbed up the wooden ladder, giggling in anticipation and delight.

There was a brief cry of ecstasy, a shriek and then a sigh of disappointment.

Harlin waited impatiently for only a moment when Daemona dropped the pale naked body of the page into a pile of hay at the bottom before climbing down the wooden ladder. “Well, what was that?”

“He lasted only til he entered, but it was enough to gain a little something,” she said with a frown.

“Is he alive?” grumbled Ghul Lykos.

“Yes,” snarled Daemona, “But it’s his own fault.”

“What’s wrong with him?” asked a stableman.

“Aside from no experience? He likely won’t be able to walk for a few days.”

Harlin’s face was red with anger. “He lives?”

“Yes, I said. He’s just spent for some time. Can we go now?”

The page moaned deliriously from within the pile of straw.
