Sorry to bother you but I need to talk to you asap. Can we meet at the office? It’s important.

Worry spiked through him, and he hoped it was nothing serious.

“Something came up. I’ve got to go to the office.”

“Can I come with you?”

He cradled her face. “No way. I want you to be naked in bed waiting for me.”

Her smile was immediate. “I can do that.”

“I’ll be back soon.” He grabbed his keys.

“Hey,” Cassandra said. “I forgot to ask. What time is the party? And where is it being held?”

“Cocktails are at seven-thirty. And it’s here at the Leyton, so we don’t have to worry about traffic. See you soon, Deusa.” He gave her a kiss and left.

“Let’s go through this one more time.” Ben tapped furiously on his computer.

“We’ve been over this so many times already. I think it’s solid.” Leo glanced at his phone. He’d already texted Cassandra saying he would be late. This news was extraordinary, and he was grateful Ben had called him. An informer at Sutton Properties had sent Ben emails with detailed information about Malcolm’s financial transactions. If true, Malcolm would go down in a blaze of glory.

“I just want to be sure.” Ben opened a series of emails from the informer. On a separate screen, Ben brought up the spreadsheet he’d assembled from their own research. Everything lined up. Malcolm was embezzling, and someone from inside the company could corroborate Ben’s findings. “I still can’t believe it. Who is this guy?”

“Or woman,” Leo offered. Sutton Properties was a large company with a sizeable financial department. There were many possibilities of who the whistleblower could be.

Ben pushed away from the computer. “Well, this information is a great start, but the informer hasn’t handed over everything we need to lock this in. I think they are waiting for reassurance that we’ve got the guts to use the information to take Malcolm down.”

“I agree.”

“I’m still in shock,” Ben said, running his hands over his face. “Listen, you need to get going. I’ll put together the charts and prepare a presentation for your laptop in case you need it for the meeting.”

“Thanks, Ben. Don’t stay too late. There’s no reason to ruin your weekend.”

“I’m like a dog on a bone with this stuff.” Ben turned his attention back to his computer. “Say hi to Malcolm,” he added with a laugh, holding up a middle finger.

“I sure will.” Leo left his office.

The news Ben had discovered was going to have major ramifications for Leo and his future with Cassandra. It didn’t matter if she was a Papdakis. Somehow, they found each other, and he wanted to marry her. Tonight, he would make it official.
