She smiled at him, reassured by their talk. “When is the board meeting?”

“Monday.”

“As in this Monday?” she asked in surprise. He must have a million things to do to prepare for the meeting, yet he dropped everything to come to her.

“The day after tomorrow,” he said with a smile. “I spoke to Ben on my way here, and because we’re so close to the board meeting, he gave me his approval to tell you, but you can’t discuss what I’ve told you to anyone. Not even your parents.”

“I promise.”

He kissed her nose. “Just to be sure, I’m not letting you out of my sight until the meeting.”

“When do we have to leave?”

“The Hamiltons let me use their jet, so we can leave anytime we want. Lucy called me. It was her idea to surprise you.”

“Really?” She owed her friend a huge debt of gratitude for sending Leo to her.

“I was planning to come here after the board meeting to beg for your forgiveness.”

“You would have begged?” she asked with a smile. She couldn’t imagine him begging for anything.

Leo pulled her onto his lap, so she straddled him. “I would have done anything to get you to come back to me.”

She pushed a lock of hair off his forehead, peering closer at his face. There were dark smudges under his eyes. “You look tired, Leo.”

“After you left, I worked day and night at Rose Village. The hardest part was coming home to an empty apartment.”

“Being apart from you was the most difficult part for me, too.” She smiled at him. “Are you ready for the meeting?”

“Yes, and I want you to come with me. You won’t be able to be in the boardroom, but I want to know you’re close by.”

“You want me to wait inside Sutton Properties headquarters? But what about—”

Leo’s gaze was fierce. “I don’t care what anyone thinks. The rivalry is between Malcolm and your father, not me.”

Her father. The idea of confronting him filled her dread.

“What do we do about my father?”

“I’ve got a few ideas.”

“Like what?” She pulled away, her anxiety returning.

“It’s all good, Cassandra,” he said with reassuring confidence. “You’ll see.”

For the first time in weeks, all their problems dissolved away. Everything would be okay, just like Leo had told her all along.

“I love you,” she said.

He laid her on the sofa and gazed into her eyes with a smile. “I love you, too, Deusa.”

Goddess. With him, she did feel like a goddess. She mussed his hair and ran a hand over his beard. Leo’s hair was longer now, and he hadn’t shaved for a while. “Except for your eye, you look just like you did when I first met you. My Eros.”

With no other words, he slid her robe apart and kissed her.
