CHAPTER 11

LEO

Leo took a sip of his mojito and glanced at his phone. It was almost nine-thirty. His stomach tensed with the possibility she was on a date. He tried putting her out of his mind all day, but as soon as he saw her in the elevator after his run, he could no longer deny the attraction. Her skin flushed, and her brown eyes widened with interest. No, he didn’t believe she was on a date.

Fortunately for him, neither the hotel nor the restaurant was busy. He’d been escorted past the few diners here without any notice. If she did arrive, he’d already given the server, Jason, a hefty tip not to mention his name.

Footsteps approached, slowed, and then quickened again. Leo took a deep breath. She was here.

Jason pulled a chair out for her.

Leo turned to her. Last night she’d been dressed in a flowing skirt, but tonight she wore black linen slacks and an embroidered gray sheer blouse that gave a hint of the mounds of her breasts. She was even more lovely than he remembered.

She took her seat and gave Leo a cautious smile. She was nervous.

“Would you like anything to drink?” Jason asked her.

“The mojito is wonderful,” Leo said. “Thanks for recommending it, Jason.”

“You’re welcome, Mister—” Jason grimaced and cleared his throat. “Sorry. I mean, you’re welcome, sir.”

“A mojito sounds good. Thank you for the suggestion, sir.” She tossed Leo a fleeting look.

“My pleasure.” He sipped his drink, enjoying her sense of humor.

She adjusted her glasses and studied the menu. The lighthearted moment shifted into silence.

“It’s a beautiful evening,” Leo said, hoping to initiate a conversation.

“It is.” She gave him a more relaxed smile, tucking a loose curl behind her ear. She returned her attention to the menu.

Jason returned with the mojito, a few minutes later, and she took a long sip. “Hmm, this is wonderful.” Her tongue took a leisurely lick over her full lips, and Leo’s dick stood at attention.

“I’ll be back.” Jason headed back inside.

“I have the mythology book you left behind last night. If I’d known you would be here, I would have brought it with me.” He could have, but it gave him another reason to see her again. “I can have it delivered to your room or leave it with the front desk if you want.”

“Thanks, but there’s no rush.”

“Would you like to share a table with me?” He hoped offering an invitation would ease her nervousness. “We can sit at mine or yours, but I’d like to have dinner with you.”

Her eyes focused on his. “I still don’t know who you are.”

“Just because we haven’t exchanged names doesn’t mean we don’t know each other.”

“Then why not tell me?”

“Because it’s not nearly as much fun.” He wanted to hold on to his anonymity as long as he could.

“I would ask Jason, but it’s obvious he’s been sworn to secrecy,” she said, rolling her eyes.

He wanted to burst out laughing at her reaction. Instead, he turned to her. “He’ll never tell. Besides, I’m having fun unraveling the mystery of your identity.”

“There’s nothing mysterious about me,” she said with a chuckle. “You’re the one who refuses to give a name.”

“Okay,” he said. “Let’s start with our middle names. You go first.”

“It’s Sophia.”
