“Us?”
“Yeah. Us.” His body begged to touch her, but he needed to stay focused and not lose control. He wanted her to make her decision without any persuasion. “I have an idea. I have lunch every Sunday when I’m in town with Ben’s family. Ben Kamau is my best friend and business partner.
“Ben was the one who drove the Ferrari in Santorini, right?”
“Yeah, that’s him,” Leo said with a laugh. “So, would you like to come with me next week?”
“Are you sure it’s okay?”
“Ben knew I was seeing you today and practically threatened me if I didn’t bring you.”
The corners of her mouth lifted into a smile. “Then it seems like I can’t refuse.” With her hand on the knob, she turned to Leo. “You don’t have to leave.”
The desire in her eyes was undeniable. It would be almost impossible to leave Cassandra tonight, but he would have to stick to his resolve.
“Let’s wait until you’ve thought about us and what it will mean for you.” He took her hand off the knob and gave it a kiss.
She closed her eyes with a nod. “Okay.”
“Don’t look so disappointed. It’ll be fun getting to know each other.”
“Like dating?”
“Yeah.” He gave her hand a squeeze. “You can take me to the British Museum and give me a private tour of Greek artifacts. We can go back to Tio Gilberto’s, and I’ll feed you coxinha,” he whispered.
Cassandra responded with a luminous smile. She had a similar smile that night on the boat when he told her she was as beautiful as a goddess.
He leaned in close to her ear. “I have another name for you.”
“What is it?”
“Deusa.”
“Day—?”
“Day-oo-zuh.”
She pulled away a bit, and confusion filled her eyes.
“It means goddess in Portuguese.” He studied her. “That’s what you mean to me. Goodnight, Deusa.”
“Goodnight.” Her voice was little more than a whisper. “Good luck with the presentation.”
He gave her hand a gentle kiss and left her flat.
