“We can talk about all that later, though. There’s only two things I need you to know right now.” Still gripping my hand, he reached out and took the other.

“I’m listening,” I replied, swallowing nervously.

“First thing: Laurel demanded I send you home. She threatened to ruin both of us when I said I’d quit if you left. It’s a long story, and I’m happy to give you every detail, but that’s the most important part. I never would have sent you home.”

A massive breath of relief shuddered out of me, my shoulders dropping from their release of tension. “And two?”

“Two, I love you. I’m head over heels in love with you.” He looked down, then paused. There was only one thing that he could’ve have noticed. “You still have it on.”

“I couldn’t bring myself to take it off.”

He let go so he could remove it himself. “I knew I wanted to do this the day I bought it.” He chuckled, turning the ring around in his fingers.

Music floated over the air, and I glanced around, trying to figure out where it was coming from. “What is that?”

“A song that reminds me of you. Of us.”

I closed my eyes to focus on the lyrics, tears gathering behind my eyelids when I recognized it. “This song reminds you of us?”

“Well, it was this or ‘Hungry Eyes.’”

“You wouldn’t have.”

“Oh, I would’ve. Ask Madison. I had an entireDirty Dancingproposal planned. She told me it was too cheesy.”

“I love cheesy,” I replied, a corner of my mouth lifting.

“See, that’s what I said. Now, about this ring.” He slid it onto my ring finger, the heart pointing away from me this time. “I’ve done so, so many things wrong. And I’ll probably still mess up here and there. But Harper, I can’t imagine life without you in it. I want to spend the rest of my life loving you.”

“There’s so much we haven’t talked about…”

“You’re right.”

“I don’t even know where you’re going to live, Flynn. How is this supposed to work?”

“I’m living here. I don’t have a permanent place yet, but I’ve got a place I’m staying in.”

“What about skiing?”

He shrugged, then brought my hand up to his lips to press a gentle kiss there. “I figured out I could do anything I wanted to do right here in Pine Cove Springs. What matters most to me isn’t the sport. It’s you.”

“Really?” I asked, tears burning my eyes.

“Marry me, Harper?” he asked softly. “Everything I’ve got doesn’t mean much if you’re not around to share it with. I don’t know how I managed so long without you, but I can’t do it anymore. I’ve seen what life could be like with you in it, and I don’t want it any other way.”

“Yes.” I nodded. “I can’t imagine life without you in it either.”

He let out a loud cheer before wrapping both of his arms around me and spinning me around.

“You just made me the happiest man alive.”

“You’re an easy sell.” I grinned, moving to palm his cheek. “How is this happening? What happened?”

He turned his face into my touch and closed his eyes, pressing his lips to the sensitive skin of my wrist. “I’ll explain in a minute. I just… I wasn’t sure we’d get to this point after everything.”

“I wanted to get back here, more than you possibly know.” The words shuddered out of me, relief flooding my body.

“I love you, Harper.”
