It thrills me.

Especially when I reach up and trail a finger down his chest, jabbing right into his sternum. He gasps, eyes going wide, face paling.

“Do we have an understanding?”

He nods, so I let him go. Chasin gasps for breath as he straightens. And now all that momentary fear is gone. He’s a man who appreciates strength, power, and now I have both. “Seems Bronywyn has a bite.”

“You have no idea,” I tell him softly. “No idea at all.”

My phone rings, so I withdraw it. After checking the screen, I glance over my shoulder. “Pack your stuff. We leave in fifteen minutes.” Then, I press the phone to my ear. “Tarnley. Didn’t expect to hear from you so soon.”

“I don’t want to die,” he says curtly, tone strained.

“I don’t imagine you do. But you’ve made it clear you don’t want my help.”

“I’ve changed my mind.”

“And what about everyone else?”

“What about them? They have nothing to do with this. I need your blood, and you need mine. It’s a business transaction, nothing more.”

As he says the words, a wave of exhaustion runs through me, a reminder that the bond is more strained than it has ever been. “Fine. When and where?”

“An hour?”

“Can’t do that. I’m out of town on business at the moment.”

“What the hell does that mean?”

“Billings is hardly my only life, Tarnley. I seem to have forgotten that in years past.”

“When will you be back?” The response is strained, making me nervous that perhaps I gave our bond too much credit. What if it’s already too late?

“A few hours. I can come to your apartment as soon as I am.”

“Fine.”

“Tarnley?”

“What?”

“You’d damn well better be alone.” I end the call and am turning around just as Chasin is stalking toward me, suitcase in hand. “That all you’re bringing?”

“I don’t need much to survive.”

After surveying his thin cotton pants and untied kimono, I nod. “Don’t wear much either, do you?”

He grins. “Never saw a need for more clothing than necessary.”

“Fine. We need to get going. It seems that I have somewhere to be.” I push through the curtains, surprised that the room is completely empty. Even the pink haired witch is gone, leaving Chasin and me alone. “You cleared this out quickly.”

“Don’t care much for people being in my space when I’m not here.”

My thoughts briefly drift back to the mansion and clinic I vacated. “I can understand that.”

“Can you? Last I checked, you let no one in. Such a shame, too, for you to be all bottled up. So much sexual tension.”

“Knock the shit off or I’ll relieve you of your ability to speak.”
