Bronywyn

We reappear in my living room, and while I would love nothing more than to sink onto the couch, I immediately go into medical mode. “We need to get Walker downstairs.”

“I’ll be fine,” he chokes out, but the moment the final word leaves his lips, he sputters and coughs, causing blood to spatter against my wall.

“Not a chance in hell, mate.” With a slight limp, Elijah carries Walker down the hall, and we all follow until we reach the panel. I step around and press my palm to the panel then do my best to take the stairs. Still unsteady, I slip, but before I can fall, Tarnley is at my side and wrapping an arm around my waist to steady me on my feet.

Together, we make the trek downstairs and into the clinic. “First door.”

Elijah moves into the room and sets Walker down. “What do you need?” Being a hunter now, it looks like the worst of his injuries are already healed.

“My kit. Right over there.”

He retrieves my medical kit from a shelf right outside the door and brings it to me. I reach inside and pull out my scissors then get to work, slicing open Walker’s tattered shirt to reveal multiple lacerations to his chest and abdomen.

“Can you save him?”

I glance over at Willa and nod. “Yes.”

“What can I do to help?” Her blood being even more potent given her Alpha status, she’s already back on her feet as well.

“Can you make sure the others have nothing life-threatening? I’m particularly concerned with Delaney since she doesn’t have any enhanced healing.”

“Sure.” She leaves the room.

Tarnley blurs to my side and holds out his wrist. No argument from me, I slice it open, and he presses it to Walker’s lips. Then, we wait, watching his wounds with increased panic when nothing fucking happens.

“Why isn’t it helping? Vampire blood is supposed to be a cure-all, right? Why the hell is he still bleeding?

“I don’t know,” I tell Rainey, my adrenaline waning to panic. “It should be helping. It makes no sense.” My confidence dissipates with each passing moment as I check his wrists and see no silver. “Maybe it doesn’t work on psychics. Rainey, can you use the phone by the door and call Winnie? She’ll be upsta—” Before I can finish the sentence, Winnie, Magnolia, and Drexel rush into the room. Cheeks red, Winnie gapes at me before shifting her attention to Walker.

Whatever she was going to say is forgotten when her eyes fill. “I’ll get him hooked up.”

“Thank you.” I shove the torn remnants of his shirt to the side before grabbing my stethoscope and pressing it to his chest. The thumping of his heart is more erratic than normal, which, given his pain, is expected. But when I move the stethoscope down just a bit to listen to his breathing, I get my first indication that this might be a bit outside of my wheelhouse. Especially since Tarnley’s blood won’t work.

Why the fuck won’t it work?“He needs to get to an emergency room,” I say quickly and rush for the phone on my wall to call the one person who may actually be able to save his life—if we can get him there in time.

“Hello?”

“Rachel, I’ve got one for you. Male, thirties, labored breathing, erratic heart rate, multiple lacerations to chest and abdomen, internal bleeding, possible collapsed lung.”

“Bring him in.”

“I’ll be bringing him into the basement. Meet us there.”

“Basem—”

“Just do it.” I end the call and turn. “Where’s Ridley?”

“I’ll get him.” Elijah rushes out of the room, and Rainey walks over to grab her partner’s hand.

“I swear if you die on me, I will kick your ass,” she warns.

“Listen if I—”

“No,” she cuts him off. “Knock the shit off, psychic. I’ve already lost one partner. I’m not losing another.”
