“Dammit.”

“It’s all a learning process.” I reach down and pull her to her feet.

“If it makes you feel any better, you’re already better than most humans.”

Deissy chuckles. “I appreciate that, Rainey, even if I doubt it’s true.” She yawns. “I think I’m going to head to bed. Get some sleep and try again tomorrow.”

“Sounds good. We’ll go after Fearghas next time.”

Deissy lights up. “Yes. Him I can get.” She turns and bounds up the stairs.

As soon as she disappears from view, I lean against the wall. “You seem to be getting along quite well with her seeing as how you threatened to kill her not too long ago.”

“I have a shit ton of respect for the human. Not many would be willing to risk their life the way she and Felix have.”

I grin at her, unable to hide my joy at the respect in Rainey’s tone. “Why, Rainey Astor, I think you like her.”

She glances up at me. “Let’s not get too excited. It’s not like I hate everyone.”

I don’t bother pointing out that she kind of does. Instead, I reach into my pocket and withdraw the sheet of paper and offer it to her.

She studies the address. “What is this?”

“The location of a particular succubus den.”

Rainey’s entire expression lights up. “Please tell me this is where Bella’s mother is.”

“It is. I had Brad track her down. You feel up to paying her a visit?”

“Fuck yes. I’ll grab Elijah, Del, and Cole.”

“Awesome. I imagine Fearghas may want in on it, too.”

“He’s with Eira, but I can give him a call.” She turns and heads for the stairs, so I pull out my phone and check for any more messages from Bronywyn.

She’s been silent since her last text message, and the urge to track her down is strong. I can still feel her unease, though it’s a lot less potent than it had been. I tell myself that she’s likely fine. She’s powerful, determined, and I’d bet money on her survival every time.

But the ache in my chest.

The rocks in my gut.

They’re telling me that something is very, very wrong.
