I have to remind myself that shit happens and I'm lucky to have a car. It doesn't stop me from throwing the fingers at it as I open my eyes.

I scream when I notice the face in my window.

Leo stands there smiling at my double finger gesture, still standing tall and proud at the steering wheel.

Dropping my hands, I climb out of the car with intentions to tell the handsome jerk off for being a creeper, then walking my happy ass to the nearest bus stop.

Spotting my mother still standing in Julie’s doorway, I keep my voice lowered, "What are you doing here, Leo?"

I meant for my voice to come out strong despite the low volume, but it sounds like a strangled cat.

I clear my throat before stepping around him, keeping my eyes on him as I slip my hand into my jacket for my blade.

I can’t say for sure it was Leo standing in the darkness or the psycho that text me, but I’m not willing to be caught unaware.

“Leo! What brings you here?” My mother’s voice cuts off whatever Leo was about to say.

He turns to her with the sweetest smile I’ve ever seen, and my heart does a little jump. Who knew a mob boss could smile so prettily.

Chill out you gullible beating organ, this guy could be a whack-job.

I berate my heart as Leo replies to my mother, "I figured this little car wouldn't start, so I thought I'd come by and offer Dice a ride. I was already in the neighborhood." He gestures to the white Mercedes jeep that I somehow missed in my haste to get to work.

Hmm, already in the neighborhood. For what? Your next victim?

My eyes narrow on him and my mind comes up with all sorts of opinions, but I feel like I’m wrong.

Leo is a fucking mob boss, he can have the pick of any girl and if he wanted to fucking kidnap me, the bastard would have done it at the bank. He had plenty of opportunities to hurt me or abduct me, and the motive to do it too. Yet, he didn’t.

Still, I’m weary.

“No thank you, Leo. I feel like walking.”

Leo chuckles and looks around the parking lot that is beginning to fill with snow, “The snow isn’t going to let up anytime soon, doll.” He takes a step toward me and I mirror him by taking one back. His brows furrowed and I almost want to roll my eyes.

Even if he isn’t the stalker, he still held me at gunpoint and threatened my mom.

“It’s just a ride, Dice. Lo juro por Dios.”I swear to God.

“No thank you, Leo.”

I turn to my mother who has watched our whole back and forth with confusion on her face. I walk over to her and kiss her before whispering in her ear, “I’ll see you tonight.”

She looks at Leo over my shoulder and nods once before turning around and walking into Julie’s apartment and closing the door.

I don’t turn back; I just keep walking and turning down the sidewalk. I feel the tension coiling my muscles, the cold temperature not helping, but putting distance between Leo and myself is relieving.

It doesn’t last long though.

The white Mercedes pulls up next to me, driving slowly to match my pace. I don’t look over at him, but I hear the power window roll down, “Come on, Dice. Is this about the bank?”

I stop and turn to him, my emotions and anger reaching their limit, “No,asshole. It’s about yesterday and last night. Why can’t you just leave me alone? And don’t fucking text me anymore or I will go to the cops.”

Leo’s face hardens and I see the exact moment, my words hit a mark, “I wouldn’t do that if I were you, doll.”

My fingers tremble and my heart pounds in my ears, but it doesn’t stop me from telling him off, “Or what, huh? You going to hurt my mom, the woman who thinks highly of you despite who you are and what you do?” He grinds his teeth, and it only takes me a split second to realize; he wouldn’t hurt my mother.

Still, I continue, stepping closer to the passenger door with a sneer on my face, “And if you ever text me like you did last night, I will fucking shoot you the next time I see you.”
