Men.

Sometimes I think they were born with a different brain than us women. While we have categories and shelves in our minds, men have one shelf marked, mine, mine, and mine.

Everything from the shiny preschool toys to whatever they deem theirs as adults sits on that shelf.

"I'm going to take a quick smoke break in the back." I tell Amber once the last customer is served. I wish I could just take off but unfortunately, I signed up for a full day of work today.

I get to my locker in the back of the shop and grab my joint and lighter from my purse before sending a text to Leo,

Me: Meet me in the alley.

Maybe I'm foolish and will end up regretting this, but I think I'm going to take Amber's advice and enjoy some time with a man who is obviously interested in me.

If he wants a casual no-strings-attached thing, I can do that.

What could go wrong? Asks every idiot in horror movies.

With my jacket on, I step out into the alleyway behind Nectar’s and light my joint. I'm not much of a drug user but weed has always helped me function through my anxiety.

I tuck the lighter into my jacket pocket and inhale the apple flavored smoke before stretching my neck muscles and rubbing my shoulders to get the stiffness out.

Where is this guy? Did he not get my text?

Just as I'm about to check if I text the right number, the man of the hour comes around the corner and Amber’s words come to mind, he looks devilish.
