Tears leak down my face as he hands me the wallet size photo. A man with my face stares back at me. The resemblance is uncanny. He's broad shouldered and has the same hard edge to his face that Leo does. You can practically see the killer beneath the surface. His eyes show the lives he ended as a Mafia underboss but the way he leans to the woman next to him shows unadulterated devotion and protectiveness.

Standing under his muscular arm is a younger version of my mother. She's not looking at the camera, her smiling face is tilted upwards to... "My father."

My voice is barely audible, and my vision swims with the tears that continue to form on my lashes.

"He didn't leave us." It's a statement and with the words, I feel the weight on my heart lift.

I grew up almost despising my father, hating that he was nothing but a fuckboy, but now I see how wrong I was. They killed him. Murdered. But by who?

Leo reaches over and wipes the tears from my eyes, "I thought we could go visit his grave, but it's pretty cold. If you like, we can come back tomorrow, maybe we can bring your mother too."

Seeing me hesitate, Leo adds, "We don't have to go at all, I just wanted you to know who you are, what runs in your veins."

"I want to go now, under the cover of the moon. It feels more private that way."

Leo nods and steps out of the car. He opens my door and puts his coat over my shoulders before turning on his phone's flashlight.

As we make our way along the sidewalk paths, I notice men in the shadows and I instantly pull myself tighter to Leo.

"Don't worry, amor. Those are my men. The cemetery’s Sexton knows me and has kept the grounds private for us tonight. No one will come in and if they do, my men will get rid of them. You are safe with me, always."

My chest warms at his words and the way he wraps his arm around my waist as we walk has me melting into him. It really feels so natural being with him. Like nothing else exists outside of us.

"What about the man who has been stalking me? My dreams were filled with creepy fucking eyes watching me. When I’m home, I can’t shake the feeling that he’s watching me.” I shudder and Leo’s grip on me tightens.

“I have my best man looking into this dickbag. The guy is using burner phones to cover his ass but the sense of security those phones give people is false. So far, we’ve been able to track his locations but no actual name yet. Soon I will have him, though. He’s a creature of habit and you, Dice, are his drug. He’ll need a fix soon and when he tries getting close to you again, I’ll rid your life of him.”

We continue walking the path as I let his words sink in. A normal woman would have run for the hills at the mention of killing someone but I’m not normal. I never have been. Hearing Leo’s words soothed me and turned me on.

He’s an alpha through and through.

Like a lion standing guard over his pride and protecting them with his life. Leo is my lion.

I nod and move on from the subject before I jump his bones, “Who murdered my father, Leo?”

He sighs heavily before bringing his face down to lay a kiss to my head, "Danny Reyes. He is the boss of the Reyes Familia. From what I've learned, Danny was, and still is, a very paranoid and obsessive person. He feared your father would challenge him for power."

“Obsessive?”

“Yeah, the rumor is, Danny wanted to be your father. He wanted the respect and power your father earned. They used to be best friends, but greed changed Danny for the worst.”

We turn off the path and on to the grass while I think about everything Leo said. My father's Don killed him because he feared my father’s power was overshadowing his own. What kind of Familia Boss does that to their own men?

"Would you do that to one of your men, Leo?"

We stop between headstones, but I pay them no mind. My question is valid, and I want to know what kind of Boss Leo is. Is he vicious and cruel too? Would he easily widow a woman and orphan a child for power?

Leo brushes my hair behind my shoulder before tipping my face up to his. The phone between us casts enough light that I can see his eyes.

"I treat my men fairly, doll. I don't abuse them or misuse them. Their trust in me is something I treat with absolute respect. If one decided he would challenge me for my position, it would be because he is greedy and power-hungry. I will not hesitate to remove anyone who threatens my family and empire."

I see truth in his eyes.

Chills run through me, and it's not just because of the cold weather. Leo just admitted he would kill someone who challenged him. He would kill for power, despite telling me someone killed my father for the same fucked up reason.

"Sounds hypocritical to me, mero." I sneer.

I try to pull away from him, but Leo holds on to me tighter. His face hardening as he leans in closer, his deep voice is practically a growl.
