Dice takes a deep breath, and her chest rises to my face. I want nothing more than to end this talk and rip her clothes from her, but I understand that she needs this. She needs to hear my words.

"All you've done is reassure me of your title, Leo. I need to know that my life is my own. I’m not saying I will, but I need to know that when this trouble is gone, my mother and I can leave.”

Though her words and the image it puts in my head is a painful one, I must concede. I want her more than I’ve ever wanted anything, but her happiness is just as valuable to me as having her in my arms. My mother’s words come back to me, her blistering but truthful advice. I won’t push Dice away with stubbornness.

“Once I know for certain you and Raquel will be safe, you both may go if you please. Until then, I’d like for both of you to be comfortable here. My mother and sister will be here as well.”

Throughout my response, I see the hardness leave Dice’s eyes and I can easily see that my mother was right. I’ll gain Dice’s trust and respect much easier if I give her what she wants. The freedom to choose for herself. That should be common sense, but my natural response is to protect her no matter what she or anyone else wants.

Inconsiderate? Absolutely, but I am the King in my domain, and I want to rule over Dice unrepentantly, but I know that with her, I’ll most likely be the one losing the battle of wills. She has too much power over me already.

“Do we have a deal, mi amor?” I scan her face as she thinks it over. Her lips tip up into a smirk that has my dick hardening.

“We have a deal.”

Dice leans in quickly, capturing my lips in a hungry kiss but Brian’s voice yelling from the hallway has us pulling apart. I grab the gun hidden between the wall and headboard. I load the chamber as I pull Dice behind me.

Brian bursts through the doorway, “Mero! Letty called.”

I already know what he’s going to say. The ghostly look on my best friend’s face tells me everything. I jog out of the room to my office as Brian continues, “Joey was killed while picking her up. The bastards tried to capture her, but she was able to get to the SUV and escape. She says they’re still chasing her.”

“Is she hurt?” My heart is pounding, and my vision is tunneled but I control myself as I let my darker side come to the surface. I will not let Danny motherfucking Reyes slide. Retribution will be had for this.

In my office, I open my encrypted laptop and pull up the tracking system for every vehicle my guards use and find one racing through back streets.

“No, Mero. She’s still on the line with Hector. He is waiting for your word but he’s getting men ready in the garage.”

Nodding my head, my eyes scan the screen. I notice Dice, and the three guards I plan to always have with her, standing in the doorway of my office, but I don’t bother to hide this from her.

“She’s heading toward the West Loop.” I take out my phone and dial the car’s Bluetooth. As it rings, I look up at Brian. “La Muerte cenará con Don Reyes esta noche.”Death will dine with Don Reyes tonight.
