CHAPTER TWENTY-FIVE

‘STAY FLY’ THREE 6 MAFIA

"Alpha one, comms check." I say into the earpiece as I tighten the Velcro straps on my ballistics vest before loading the clips into my guns.

"Alpha one, comms good." Hector's voice comes through.

As Brian does his check, followed by our two snipers and the men we have set up at the abandoned industrial building in the Burnside Corridor, I check myself over once more.

After getting Dice settled in bed, I got her some water and made her promise she'd stay in bed for the rest of the evening. Of course, my little doll begged me not to go, but that's not how I work. I go into the trenches with my men. What kind of boss sits back and lets his men handle his dirty work?

Not me.

After promising I'd check in with her and threatening to tie her down if she disobeyed, I kissed her goodbye.

I haven’t told her she’s carrying our child because when I do, I want to make it special, not rushed. Hearing her say, I love you, though… that was all I needed to get me through this night.

Standing before me is Miguel. He's going in armed with only his gun. For now, he has both hands, but soon he'll need to learn how to use his left hand. For now, I'm content to give him his gun. Despite his foolish betrayal, I have confidence he won't try anything to get away. Not with his daughter's life on the line.

"Okay, let's head out." I give Miguel his car keys and we make our way into the garage.

Once Brian and I are in his black Range Rover, we pull on our ski masks. They’re not needed but since we were kids, ski masks have always been what we use on jobs. Tonight, we’re dressed in full black to blend in with the shadows.

Rico and Miguel negotiated a time and place to meet.

Rico's time and Miguel's spot.

Since we had already discussed where they'd meet, I had my men set up at the location to ensure Rico wouldn't do the same. Tony, leader for alpha two, alerted me he and his team have eyes on hidden men who showed up not ten minutes ago.

I spread alpha two throughout the rooftops of the crumbling buildings on the north end of the corridor. Alpha three has eyes on the west end. They're experts in the shadows and I have confidence they'll be ready for anything.

"Alpha three, any trouble on your end?"

"Negative, Boss. All's clear. Ready for your—'' Raul's voice cuts out for a second as Brian and I follow behind Miguel's car.

"Alpha three, what's going on?" I ask into the comms.

"Boss, we got eyes on the target." Raul's voice is a murmur, "He has the girl in the passenger seat. Other than her, he appears to be alone. He's calling someone."

"Roger that. Radio silence." I demand as we hear Miguel's phone ring through his open mic.

Miguel puts the phone on speaker so we can all hear him as he growls, "Rico."

A broken chuckle comes through the line, "Tu hija te saluda. ¿Debería decirle que su padre es una puta?"Your daughter says hello, should I tell her, her father is a bitch?

"Fuck you, you ball licking bastard! I don't know how, and I don't know when, but one day I will slowly pull your intestines from your worthless body while you still breathe."

Rico stays silent for a moment until we hear the telltale sound of skin hitting skin followed by the whimpering of the girl.

"Fuck! Stop! Don't touch her, Rico! I'm six minutes from you," Miguel screams into the phone as he speeds up on the road.

Brian is gripping the wheel harder as he turns down another road. We're taking a shorter route and leaving the car half a mile out. We'll take the rest of the route on foot.

As we speed through the streets, I do one more check with my men, "Alpha three, we're two minutes to our first stop. Is our route into the corridor clear?"

"All’s clear, Boss."

"Good, notify me if that changes, we're coming in."
