"Miguel, you good?" I ask while watching the truck sit idle.

"I'm not gonna make it, man. Please, Leo, take care of my girl for me. She's innocent. I'm sorry for this, Boss." His voice fades, but I can hear his labored breathing.

I want nothing more than to spare a man to keep him alive for his kid, but the truck opens as four men and one woman step out.

I can't see their faces since they left their spotlights on, but Tony can from the rooftops, "Boss, this isn't the Reyes crew. Fuck, it looks like the Vegas King."

"Get a confirmation." I murmur. I want to take my mask off, but if these fuckers are cops or rats, I don’t want my face seen.

The new group comes closer,"Alto!I think you took a wrong turn." The group stops about twenty feet away, the lights causing shadows to cover their faces.

"If that's the way you say hello to your friends, Compa, I may need to reevaluate our relationship."

A grin spreads across my face, but I still keep my guard up, "Ah, well, when you arrive on a scene like this...” I let my words trail off with meaning. “Tell me why I shouldn't have my snipers remove you now?”

I keep my voice light, but the red laser dots on Manuel Ibarra and his people's chests carry the weight of my threat.

"You would shoot an unarmed friend, Leo? I thought we had good business together."

"Cut the shit, Ibarra. Why the fuck are you here? And not just in my city, but right fuckinghere?"

There's a tense moment of silence as Manuel, King of Vegas, and I, King of Chicago, stare each other down. Looking for weakness and honestly finding none.

"I received a call from Danny Reyes yesterday. He said you're holding mysisteragainst her will, and he’s trying to rescue her, which I know is total bullshit. I played the part of wanting to help save my sister, the sister you failed to tell me about, and he told me of this tradeoff between your man and his. I thought I'd come in and move some chess pieces around. The question is, Compa... what side of the board should I be standing on?"

I kick the leg out of Rico, listening to bones snap, and let the crying asshole drop to the ground before stepping over him toward Ibarra.

I keep my gun at my side, and I don't tell my men to stand down. This fucker, coming into my city unannounced is suspicious as fuck. He said he’d be here in three weeks, that’s one fucking week too soon. Until my suspicions are gone, I'm going to treat the Vegas King as a threat.

As I stop in front of the man, I take him in. I've seen him many times through a screen and have held many meetings with him through calls but standing before him is different.

He is my height and build. Broad shouldered, slicked back hair with tattoos under his collar and across his kunckles. His eyes, eyes that match Dice’s color, hold checked mayhem and unfiltered excitement.

Fuck, this guy is bred for this life.

I pull off my ski mask so Ibarra can see my deadly truth, "Your sister is carrying my child and soon, she’ll have my name. That cocksucker, Danny Reyes, no doubt wanted to kill you just as he did to your father and uncles. He's been after Dice since he found out about her." I look at everyone around him, including the smirking woman at his side.

When my eyes slide back to his, I cock a brow, "Where do you stand now, compa?"
