Knix pinches her soaked shirt and pulls it from her chest, but it doesn’t help keep the material from clinging to her, “I’ve found something that sounds similar to what you’ve been dealing with.Death’s Call. It’s a spell that is cast for vengeance and usually, it’s done by a scorned Witch. The last time the spell was used was back in the sixteen hundreds by a Witch who watched her husband get burned at the stake during the Witch trials. She used it to curse the village leaders but in order to do it, you have to harvest the blood of the targeted species. I’m not on the details as the spell was all but erased from the grimoires.”

We stop by the door of the room Roman, and his brothers entered and sit at the bench beside it.

“So, this Witch, she used human blood to cast her hex?” I ask as I adjust the scratchy wool curtain over my thighs.

“Yeah, and she turned some into gruesome creatures who turned on their own families, slaughtering them all. The Witch was later sentenced to Vincula by the Elders.” Knox answers.

“Damn,” I breathe out, horrified by what this woman had done, all in the name of vengeance.

I can understand the need for payback, hell, I would seek it too, but in no way would I use forbidden magic to kill innocent people. I would, however, methodically kill those who had a hand in my mate’s death. It’s one of the reasons having a soul mate is scary as fuck and avoided by a percentage of supernaturals, losing your mate means losing half of yourself. Your soul dies with that person and whatever humanity you have left isn’t enough to keep you sane. Especially for Werewolves.

“What happened to the humans who were changed by the Witch?” I ask, holding my breath and praying Cree won’t have to die. He may have become a sick fuck but that’s not who he truly is.

“They were humans who savagely killed their own kind in hopes of killing supernaturals, what do you think happened to them?” Knix shrugs, “The elders killed them.”

Again, my thoughts go to Cree. three years ago, he was the complete opposite of who he is now. When we were kids, he was the one the boys wanted to be, and the girls wanted to mate. All the grownups loved him, and all the warriors saw potential in him. When he finally became Alpha, the whole pack threw a giant party to celebrate him and his victory against the old Alpha.

The man Cree is today but a shadow of who he was. A dark and ominous shadow full of hate and rage. Killing him would be unfair but would healing him and letting him see the damage he’s caused be fair? Would curing his soul of the Dark Bloods’ influence be a kindness or a punishment? He’d have to see what his reign has done to his own people. He’d have to face the families who were torn apart by him when he threw their loved ones into the fighting pits, forcing them to kill each other. Making him face that is not a kindness, it’s torment…

But does he deserve it? My mind saysyes, the hell he doesbut my heart and my soul cry outno, no, no!

“I’m going back to my room,” I tell the twins as I push myself to my feet and look down the hall, “come on stalker!” I shout to the prospect who thinks he’s as unnoticed as a fly on the wall. I hear Knix and Knox chuckle as the prospect jogs after me.
