One week later

It took longer than I would’ve liked to get back on my feet. For three days after the fight, I could barely get out of bed long enough to eat breakfast. My body was exhausted from all the new energy coursing through my system. It was only once the burn on my shoulder began to heal, and the suppression magic returned that I was able to even feel the Alpha bonds fully adhere to my soul.

Hobbling around Jamie’s house, my legs still throbbed, and went jelloid from time to time, but I could move. I could breathe, and think, and I knew I’d go insane if I didn’t get out of the house.

There was only one person I could think that could help me solve that problem. Rolling over, I grabbed my phone off the bedside table and pulled up Maria’s number to send her a text.

I need to get out of the house. It’s late, and Jamie is working behind the bar. Wanna go get some drinks at The Neon?

Maria’s response was almost immediate.I’ll be there in five minutes with clothing options in hand. Get ready for a full party girl night. I have been waiting for this since you got back. LOL.

I snorted and shifted to Jamie’s text thread. I cuddled up to his pillow and took a picture, adding the caption,Missing you. Hope you’re having a good shift.

No response came, but I didn’t expect one. He was busy. As he should be at work, and I wanted him that way so he wouldn’t be expecting me to show up at the bar. I wanted to surprise him.

True to her word, Maria was at the door in minutes, knocking out the beat to shave and a haircut. I opened the door I my jaw dropped.

“What?” She laughed, adjusting the garment bag draped over her arm. “You thought I was kidding?”

“All I ask is that I get veto power on the makeup. I don’t want to look like a racoon by the end of the night,” I said, holding up a warning finger.

Maria flashed me a wicked smile and pushed past me walking into the house. By the time we made it to The Neon, she’d blown out my hair, lined my lips with bright red lipstick, tweezed my brows within an inch of their life, and forced me into the world shortest black skirt and a soft gunmetal grey tank top.

Stepping up to the door, I tugged the skirt into place and took a deep breath. “You sure this looks okay?”

Maria gaped at me. “Jamie is gonna loose his shit when he sees you.”

“Here’s hoping,” I sighed pulling open the door. “He’s been treating me like I’m gonna break for days.”

Inside the music pumping through the stereo was something I’d heard on the radio not long ago, and humans and wolves were spread out along the tables. There some wolves playing pool, and behind the bar I spotted Jamie talking to Slone with his back to me.

Maria slapped me on the butt. “Go get him sexy.”

I shooed her away, gesturing to one of the tables and slipped over to the end of the bar where I could see Jamie best.

Sloane’s eyes met mine for a second and I held my finger to my lips, leaning over the bar. “Hey bartender, nice ass.”

Jamie’s shoulders instantly straightened, and he turned around, smiling until his eyes raked over my body. His face dropped; jaw included.

“You okay, buddy?” Sloane chuckled smacking him on the back.

Jamie jumped, blinking wildly, and set the dish towel he’d been carrying down on the cash register. “Sloane watch the bar.”

“Aye, aye, captain,” she said, giving him a mock salute, he couldn’t see.

His eyes never left my face. Lifting the gate at the end of the bar, he stepped out, and then closed it, extending a hand to me. “We’ll be back in a minute Maria.”

I heard my best friend snort behind me, and mutter something, but under the power of Jamie’s hungry gaze I could barely breathe.

“Do you trust me, Snow?” He asked as I slipped my hand into his.

My lips lifted in a smile. “I love you.”

“Come with me,” he said, tugging me gently off my stool.

“Where are we going?” I asked, as he towed me to the sliding glass door that divided the bar from the arcade on the other side of the building.
