“Tastes great,” I croaked, my voice failing me. He’d moved close enough I could feel the heat radiating off his shoulders. My throat suddenly felt dry, and I handed the cup back to him.

“What?” he asked, smiling at me. “You’re staring at me like I’ve got three heads.”

I blinked slowly. “Nope, just the one.”

He stepped closer, leaving less than an inch between his waist and my knees. His eyes dipped down to my lips, and he tilted his head to the side.

“What?” I asked this time, feeling my mouth curl up at the corners.

“Nothing.” He shook his head.

“Let me guess.” I chuckled. “You’re thinking about kissing me, aren’t you?”

He narrowed his eyes. “Maybe.”

“You want to know what I taste like, don’t you?” I asked, leaning in closer.

He set his cup down on the counter and planted one hand on either side of my hips. He leaned forward, until his breath brushed over my face. “Your right. I want to taste you, Snow. I really do. But I’m not going to touch you until you admit you want it too.”

“And what would happen if I did,” I challenged. “Would you make me scream your name?”

“Not at all,” he said, leaning around to whisper in my ear. “I’d make you howl for me.”

Another shiver went through my body, and my toes curled in my shoes. He pulled back to meet my eye again, and my fingers found his shirt as I slid closer to the edge of the counter. He smiled, and just as I leaned into him again, intent on finding out exactly how he tasted, something hit the floor in the hallway.

“Shit!” Maria gasped.

Jamie stepped out of reach, and I hopped down off the counter, stumbling in her direction. “Maria, are you okay?”

“Huh?” She looked up at me. “Oh shit, hi. I’m fine. I just dropped one of the bowls. I didn’t realize you were in here. You should be out there, having fun.”

“I was just taking a break,” I said. “I came in for…for…some water.”

“Here,” Jamie said, holding the water bottle out in front of me. “You forgot this.”

Maria gave him a once over. “Jamie, I was wondering where you disappeared to.”

“I need a break from the revelry and ran into Snowball getting herself some water,” he said. “I wanted to make sure she was okay.”

I jerked around to look up at him. “I’m fine.”

“Fine?” He snorted. “You’re swaying on your feet.”

“I was just sitting up on the counter and moved too fast. I’m fine,” I repeated.

“If you say so.” He said, holding up his hands.

“Hmmph, well I’ve got her from here,” Maria said, looping her arm around my back.

Jamie looked at me and exhaled a long slow breath. “I think I’m gonna head out. You know where to find me if you need me.”

“Why?” I asked. “What if I don’t want you to go?”

He blinked at me in surprise. “What?”

“Why are you leaving?”

“Parties aren’t really my thing these days,” he said. “It’s probably best I go before I ruin the fun.”

“Fine.” I sighed, stepping out of Maria’s embrace. I slid my hands up his chest, and circled my arms around his neck, pushing up on my toes. Jamie just looked at me, frozen, and I kissed him. His hands found my waist and our bodies aligned, fitting together perfectly. My tongue slipped into his mouth, and I groaned, pulling back after a second.

Jamie swallowed visibly. “I should go.”

I pouted. “Party pooper.”
