“Don’t you dare,” Maria warned, sizing up what I was about to do.

I shook my head, muttering to myself. “I have to.”

Hopping off the edge, I launched myself towards the water, hoping that if I at least landed in the river, it would help ease my impact. My sneakers broke the surface, and about half a second later my feet connected with the stones at the bottom. A shock reverberated up into my knees and I stumbled over onto the riverside right next to Jamie lying prone on the rocks.

“Jamie,” I called out, cupping his face between my hands. “Jamie, open your eyes.”

“Is he breathing?” Maria shouted in the distance.

“I…I don’t know.” I said, checking for a pulse. “His skin is cold.”

“He’s been in the water and out here for most of the night. Of course, he’s cold,” she said.

“Jamie, please wake up,” I pleaded, brushing the hair back from his forehead. “Wake up.”

Tears gathered in my eyes, but before I could say a word, Jamie groaned. “Hmm, you know waking up like this would be a hell of a lot nicer if you were naked too.”

“Jamie!” I gasped, pulling him up into a bone crushing hug. “Oh, thank God.”

“Woah,” he coughed. “Easy, Snow. I may be alive, but I am a little sore.”

“What?” I jumped back, letting him go. “I’m so sorry. Where are you hurt?”

“Just a little battered and bruised is all. After you set of the explosives the skeletons turned on me. I led them on a chase for as long as I could. This ravine caught me off guard, but it saved my life,” he said, shifting to sit upright.

“Careful,” I said. “Don’t hurt yourself.”

He laughed. “I’m okay, but…”

“But what?”

His eyes scanned the cliffs around us, and he exhaled a long sigh. “Now that you’re down here too, how are we going to get out?”

“I…” Looking up to where Maria sat waiting for some kind of sign as to whether or not he was alive. “I don’t know.”

“Well at least the company down here is nice,” he said, reaching to brush his fingers over my face.

“Hey!” Maria called out. “What’s going on?”

“He’s okay, but we’re gonna need help getting out of here. Rope, or something.”

“Alright, I’ll get the guys from the house. Just stay there and be careful.”

I nodded distinctly, and gave her a thumbs up, as my heart thundered in my ears. She disappeared and I lowered my gaze back down to Jamie’s face.

“You were worried about me?” He asked, his voice quiet.

“What?”

“You were worried about me,” he repeated.

“I…when I saw you laying down here, I thought…” I shook my head. “I don’t know what I thought.”

“Don’t hide it from me, Snow,” he said, brushing his knuckles over my cheek again.

I looked up at him again. “I’m not hiding, I’m just glad you’re okay.”

He opened his mouth to prod me for the truth again, but I cut him off with a kiss. It wasn’t a hard kiss, I didn’t’ want to hurt him. It was soft, and hesitant.
