“I don’t know.” I shrugged. “I think so.”

“Alright, well, I think you should find out,” she said at the car door.

I did a double take. “You were literally just calling him crazy and saying you wanted to kill him for sending me out into the woods.”

“I know.” She laughed, leaning her arms on the car to talk to me over the roof. “But if you like him that changes things. It’s up to you to decide if that change is good or bad. But if he hurts my best friend, you tell him Iwillkill him. It’s my right as your bestie.”

“Yeah okay.” I laughed, getting into the car.

She followed suit, giggling like a schoolgirl. “You know, this makes me want to sing that song.Evie and Jamie sitting in a tree…” she broke off humming the rest of the tune and I groaned.

“God, please no.” I joked, covering my ears. “No singing.”

“Oh, you love my singing,” she said, shoving me against the door as she pulled out of the driveway.

We laughed, but it wasn’t until we reached Main Street in the center of town that I asked. “Do you have Jamie’s number?”

“Yeah, why?” She laughed. “Want to set up a booty call?”

I glared at her. “We still have more work to do for Adrian, and I just realized I don’t have his phone number.”

“Yeah, okay.” She laughed. “It’s in my phone. Go ahead.”

Snatching her cellphone from the center console between us, I scanned through with one hand and typed his number into my phone with the other.

Before I could think about it, I typed out a dangerous text message. Can I come over? We need to talk.

His response was almost immediate.Snow? Is that you?

Who else would it be?I asked, feeling my lips curl in a smile. I still couldn’t wrap my head around the fact I enjoyed talking to him. I was having fun with Jamie Hart.

His response took a little longer this time. There are about a thousand jokes I could say right now, but I’ll save them for another time. Of course you can come over. You’re always welcome here.

Alright, I’m going to get cleaned up, and I’ll be over in an hour or so?I offered, feeling my cheeks burn. As much as I wanted to see him, I didn’t want to see him covered in forest and sweat.

How about six. Come over for dinner. I need to get cleaned up too.

I bit my lip as I responded.I’ll be there.
