“Your shirt?” I arched an eyebrow at him.

“You can either let me help you or go hide in a bush and wait for someone else to show up,” he said.

“Fine.” Crossing the field, I snatched the shirt from him and pulled it on over my head. I made sure it was long enough to cover all my vulnerable parts and sighed. The old black fabric was incredibly soft against my skin. “You can open your eyes now.”

He did and looked down at me, his eyes never straying from my face. “Okay. Now, which car is yours?”

“Aren’t you gonna put on some pants?” I asked, my cheeks burning with blush again.

“Now, don’t get impatient on me, Snow. I’m doing you a favor.” He chuckled, bending to pick up his jeans and get dressed in the rest of his belongings.

“Sorry, I’m just standing here in nothing but a tee-shirt. Please.” I narrowed my eyes at him. “Take your time.”

He snorted as he wiggled his foot into one boot, and then the other. “Which car is yours?”

“The silver beater with the scratch on the hood and the dent in the driver’s side door,” I said. “My duffle bag in the back seat should have a change of clothes I can use.”

“Alright.” He gave me a curt nod, but as he made to head around the front of the building, the back door to the bar sprang open.

Maria tumbled out and she looked back and forth between us for a second before stepping down into the grass, racing to my side. “I’ve been so worried about you. You disappeared on me last night.”

“Did you see who took my clothes?” I asked.

“Yeah,” she said, holding up the bundle she had tucked under her arm. “I did. I didn’t want anyone else to mess with them.”

“Oh, thank god,” I gasped, snatching them from her hands. “I thought someone had stolen them.”

Maria’s eyes slid to where Jamie stood staring at the both of us. “Yeah, that’s exactly what I wanted to avoid.”

“Ah, good, you got your clothes,” he said, turning around. “Can I get my shirt back? As good as it looks on you, it does happen to be one of my favorites.”

I rolled my eyes and shook out my jeans. “Sure.”

“At least now, I don’t have to break into your car.”

I glared at his back and traded his shirt for my own. Pausing just long enough to get a good whiff of the fabric. Rainwater. He smelled like a thunderstorm.

I tossed the shirt over his shoulder, and then put my own on just in time for him to turn around smiling. I cleared my throat. “Thank you.”

“Anytime, Snow.” He glanced at Maria. “You two have a good day. I’ll see you around.”

“Shoo, Pup. I’ve got it from here,” Maria said, shifting in front of me.

Jamie smiled at her and held up his hands as he retreated around the side of the building. With him gone the tension in my body relaxed.

Maria turned towards me. “Are you okay? After the twins last night, and then watching you run off after Jamie…I’ve been worried sick.”

“I was fine. We were just running, and then I woke up, came back here, and found my clothes missing.”

“So that’s why you were in his shirt,” she said. “I mean Jamie’s nice and all, but he’s scary. I’m not so sure he’s the wolf you wanna pick for a one-night stand.”

I jerked my head up. “What? No. I didn’t sleep with him. We were running. I passed out after the change. He…stayed with me.”

“Stayed with you?” She frowned.

“I don’t know,” I said. “I just want to find food and then some place to crash so I can sleep for a week.”

“Didn’t you hunt last night?” She frowned, following me around the side of the building. I had no idea if Ronnie was inside, so it was better to just avoid the bar all together.
