“Oh my God, I’m sorry.” She jerked up and shifted to slide off me. “I’m probably crushing you.”
“You’re not crushing me.” I held her in place and waited until she looked me in the eye. “I need to go to the bathroom to take care of the condom.”
Her cheeks turned pink and this time when she moved, I let her.
I slipped out of bed, walked across the room to the bathroom, and closed the door behind me. The afterof sex can be a little awkward, especially the first time. Eve was with the same person forever, so I imagine this is even more strange for her.
I’m sure her mind is running a mile a minute right now, so I don’t want to leave her alone too long. I took care of business as quickly as possible, washed my hands, and headed back to bed.
Eve sat against the pillows, her hands holding the blanket in place beneath her chin. She had a slight deer-in-the-headlights look as her gaze met mine.
“Hey.” I slipped into bed next to her. “What’s wrong?”
I shifted under the covers and pulled her into my arms. She rested her head against my chest, but still felt stiff.
“I wasn’t sure what to do. Getting dressed to leave while you were in the bathroom seemed kind of strange, so I got under the covers. But just sitting here, naked, in your bed seemed weird too.”
I kissed the top of her head.
“I like having you naked in my bed.” Just like I’d hoped, she chuckled at my words and relaxed a little. “But seriously, I’m glad you didn’t get dressed to leave.”
“I just don’t want to do anything inappropriate.”
“Like what?”
“I don’t know.” She shrugged. “I don’t even know what’s appropriate now and what’s not. It’s been more than two decades since I did this. Things were a lot different then.”
“Why don’t you just do what feels natural and we’ll take it from there?”
Eve nodded then wrapped her arm around my waist, relaxing a little more. I took that as a good sign. Eventually her breathing slowed and settled into a steady rhythm.
I closed my eyes, unable to wipe the sappy smile from my face. Being with Eve is just…easy. And for the first time in a long time, I want more than just a casual hookup. Hopefully she feels the same. But we can discuss that later, after our nap.
