“Agreed. We’ll be home tomorrow.” I refuse to ruin Mara-Lee’s day.
“Okay, see you later.” He ends the call.
Fuck Emilio. Why did he pick today of all days to decide to resurface? I push it out of my mind and focus on Mara-Lee. I need to wake her up so we can enjoy the rest of our morning together. We have plans later today, she just doesn’t know it yet.
I walk into the bedroom and crawl into bed beside Mara-Lee. “Stellina, it’s time to wake up. Santa Claus came and there are presents for you waiting under the tree.”
She stirs awake and smiles. “Liar. There wasn’t a Christmas tree here last night.”
“True, but there is one here now, and there are presents with your name on them.” I wink.
“Do I have time to shower before I go in there?”
“Yes, and all your clothes are in the dresser and hanging in the closet. I have coffee brewing so it will be ready when you come out.”
“Thank you, Amer.”
I lean down and kiss her, and she places her hand on the side of my cheek. Her touch zaps at my skin and I want her again, but I can’t keep her in bed the entire time we’re together. We need to connect in other ways too.
“If you need anything, call for me and I’ll come to you.”
“Okay.” She smiles and I get out of bed to let her shower and get dressed.
I get everything out of the fridge and lay it out on the counter so it’s ready for her to eat when she comes in here and grab two mugs from the cabinet for coffee. I pour myself some coffee and wait for Mara-Lee to come into the kitchen. While I wait, I try to decide how I’m going to handle my brother, and I feel like there isn’t much I’m going to be able to do . . .
