Sir?Mmm. He could get used to that. “So, Luca. You really have no idea who I am?”

Luca shook his head.

“Am I correct when I say you think I’ve got the wrong guy?”

He nodded, still hiding his face. That wouldn’t do.

“Look at me.” When Luca hesitated, Dom lost his patience. “Look. At. Me.”

Immediately, the young man’s head shot up, and the unadulterated fear mixed with the wide-eyed innocence was so genuine it made Dom pause.

No.There was no way this kid knew nothing. That he’d been dumped up in Connecticut with no knowledge of who and what he was. And no soulful brown eyes were going to convince Dom otherwise.

“Okay, LucaDavis.” Dom trailed his eyes over Luca’s dark, buzzed hair and the five o’clock shadow along his jaw, and on his right cheek was a distinctive freckle that sparked an immediate sense of recognition.

How was it that for all these years, all this time, the one they’d been looking for had been right there, under their noses? Was it really possible he had no idea who he was?

“Let’s play a little game, you and I. I ask a question and you give me an answer. If I think you are telling the truth, that drain underneath your feet will be for nothing.”

Luca’s eyes fell to the floor again, and when he spotted the grate, he immediately tried to push away from it.

“No.” Dom put a foot on the seat between his legs, halting him. “You don’t want to do that. If you fall, you might hit your head. I need you conscious…for now.”

Luca stopped struggling, and Dom removed his foot.

“Right. Let’s begin, then, shall we?”
