Trey’s lower jaw fell open. How did they know? Did a man suddenly change once he’d kissed a woman who might stir up his life? Then he sighed. There was no sense in denying the fact. Jane wouldn’t rest until she discovered everything. “I did, in fact. She’s the daughter of Father’s estate manager.”

“Ah, her father just left the house not ten minutes past,” his brother said.

“Miss Gedney—Noelle—is quite…” Trey ignored the heat on the back of his neck and shrugged, for he couldn’t explain it. “I need advice. I’ve only just met her but there’s a—”

“Spark?” Jane supplied with a smile.

“More like an inferno,” he shot back with a grin.

Royce and Finn laughed and exchanged knowing glances.

“What should I do?”

“Count yourself lucky?” His brother shrugged. “Honestly, there’s nothing like diving in feet first. You’ll never know what might happen unless you dare to chase it.”

Finn nodded. He snickered when the cat jumped onto his shoulder and sat there like a parrot. “To men like us,” his gaze swept about the room, “men who live through emotions, who’ve lived through hardships, when the right woman comes into our lives, she’ll disrupt everything in a good way.”

His brother snorted. “And they don’t come in like a gentle breeze. They make certain you know they’ve arrived.”

“Like a storm,” Trey added.

Everyone in the room laughed.

Isobel sobered. Kindness reflected in her stormy blue gaze. “Sometimes a man just knows who is for him, and an intelligent man won’t waste time wondering if what he feels is true.”

“Or a woman, at times.”

“Hush, you.” She tossed a look at her husband, who rolled his eyes. “Don’t fear romance, Trey. Pursue it with everything you are. Who knows when you’ll have another opportunity?”

And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.

Again, the verse’s content was far afield from the current conversation, but he grabbed hold of one phrase:fear not. Trey nodded. “Perhaps you’re right. After everything else, perhaps I’m finally ready to pursue this too.” And he certainly wanted another kiss or four with her. “Now, who’s for tea? All this good news deserves a celebration of sorts, don’t you think?”

He couldn’t wait to start planning his next meeting with Noelle.
