Natasha looks at me curiously. “Wait a second…how many emails have you guys sent?”

I shrug. “I don’t know. A few?”

She holds her hand out. “Let me see.”

I know there’s no way she’ll give this up, so I dig my phone from my pocket, pull up the email exchange and hand it over.

I watch her expression changing as she reads: there’s some bafflement, then amusement, then her eyes widen with shock. “Oh my god, Wes! Did you actually threaten to track him down and mess him up?”

I wave a dismissive hand. “It’s not like I could actually do it. Do I look like I work for MI5?”

She just gives a wry shake of her head and continues reading. Once she’s done, she looks up at me, a curious smile in place. “Wow…”

“Wow what?”

She arches a teasing brow at me. “You’ve been flirting with him.”

I stare at her, incredulous. “I wasnotflirting.”

“You sent him a winky face, Wes,” she insists. “Awinky face!”

“So? What does that matter?” I ask, completely baffled.

She just shakes her head as though I’m the most amusing person ever. Reading over the emails again, her lips curve into a soft smile. “He’s flirting too, you know.”

I scoff. “I’m worried for you if you think this is flirting. Besides, he thought I was a woman, remember?”

She just shrugs and hands my phone back. “Okay. Whatever you say.”

Yeah, we’re in dire need of a subject change right now. This is bordering on absurd. “Oh hey, guess what?”

“What?”

I offer a sly grin as I break the news. “Turns out King Twat’s not the only one whose engagement has fallen apart recently—“

“King Twat?”

“Email guy,” I clarify.

“Oh, right. Yeah, okay…go on,” Tash says with a nod.

I let out a soft breath of laughter and continue. “We found out yesterday that Emma finally came to her senses and ditched Sir Devon.”

Natasha’s jaw practically hits the floor. “What?”

I sigh, shaking my head. “Okay, I might be exaggerating a little for effect. Apparently,, it was a mutual decision. Neither of them seems all that broken up about it. The parents are all pretty upset though.”

Natasha is just staring at me, wide-eyed and open-mouthed. “Icannotbelieve this happenedyesterdayand you’re only just telling me now!”

I shrug. “To be honest, for a little while I thought I was having some weird dream or something. It all seemed way too good to be true. But this morning I got the official cancellation notification so, yeah…it’s definitely off.”

“Wow.”

I nod. “Oh, and get this—Emma’s moving to Paris.”

“What? When?”Tash’s voice has reached chipmunk levels of incredulity now.

I shrug. “Soon, I think. She got a job at Chanel, which has pretty much been her dream for forever so of course she’s taking it,” I explain. “They didn’t say so, but I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s the real reason for the split. I mean, Sir Devon is pretty much chained to his desk. Can’t imagine he’d be willing to give that up so his wife could take a new job in another country.”

“Huh. So, she’s going to be Emma in Paris. That’s cute.”
